In the eighties some strange people said that the Dutch rivers needed more space because of climate change. They also wanted to reintroduce beavers and other lost animals. It was called Plan Ooievaar ( Stork ). Then came two years at the end of last century when we might have experienced major and very expensive inundations if the water had risen just one inch more. This was just enough to get parliament to accept Plan Ooievaar. It has now nearly been done but I do wonder if current and following parliaments will be able to handle as wisely.:(

Beaver's often create their own flooding and undermining, causing river banks to collapse into the river and be carried away! every action, has an equal and opposite reaction!

You different governments with also your for a small country very rich help a lot have do amazing things for floodings considering a big part is below the sea level great job.
Russia do it also for St Peterbourg as we can have see with naval parade close Kronstadt.

BTW a dike that yields is more dangerous than a minor river in France constructions prohibited to 50 m of a dike and 30 m of a minor river ...

Real world :D

Looks like the worst is over... Our streets were all flooded and the water level got a little too high for comfort last night. Our neighborhood became a lake... fortunately, the downpour stopped early morning. The water has gone down significantly.

We have been lucky so far. Other than being without power for the most part of Saturday, we have been fine. Hope other Houstonians are doing well as well.

I made an offering to the Gods asking them to prevent you and equation from becoming alligator bait

This is a great image that speaks volume about Houston.:)

I love this picture of Houston Police SWAT officer Daryl Hudeck carrying Catherine Pham and her 13-month-old son Aiden after rescuing them from the Meyerland area surrounded by floodwaters from Tropical Storm Harvey

Thank you Brat! Now we have to hope for the best for Louisiana as Harvey moves north eastward from Houston.

Yes Sir, Master Jura has called us to prayer for all you Southerner's, I can remember moving my Mom's big heavy Cherry Desk in front of our French Doors during a typhoon on Okinawa! the neighbors old 51 Plymouth was jumping around like a Renault..
