Built in Zhong Hua shipyard in Shanghai for Algerian Navy. Can anyone speculate as to why it was built with 2 x 76A AA in the front and 2 x AK-630M in the back ??

Wouldn't a set of 4 x common CIWS guns make more sense?

The performance envelopes of the two guns are a bit different, 76A has a much longer range, so it could be a practical anti-surface weapon against small threats, while the 630M is better at intercepting missiles with its higher rate of fire.

Best of both worlds.

But the ship already has a 76mm main gun? It's my impression that the 76A is an AA gun, and it didn't make sense to me to mix 2 x 76A with 2 x 630M. Almost all ships with 4 CIWS guns use the same type.

You guys do remember that this ship is a training ship and the idea of training ships is to provide platform to most usual set of equipments in your fleet. Thus having several types of guns makes sense as you can teach the guncrews for several different ships.
