QBZ-191 service rifle family

Instead of China supplying Russia with QBZ191s, I was thinking more in the line of covert PLA Special Forces or MSS units operating in Ukraine (we know the CIA and NATO special forces infest Ukraine). Norinco can do all the tests it wants, but nothing beats actual combat conditions to test your weapons. Can the QBZ191 survive the mud and rain or Ukraine? Can the 5.8mm round hit harder than 5.56 and 5.45?

We've seen the recent controversy with the new SIG XM7. It's like SIG Sauer didn't adequately test the new gun in real world conditions. Now it's been branded as "unfit" for duty. I don't want to see the same for the QBZ191.

IMHO the risk/reward does not match.

So far the best argument Ukraine has ever gotten to China openly supporting Russian war effort would be a few paid actor/volunteer, which basically means nothing. Imagine if they manage to capture/kill/prove active duty PLA or even off-duty personnel with previous military records in the line of contact.

Operationally it would also be very hard to do ballistic analysis on the spot.

And all the test items that you listed can be much better tested in simulated and safer environments.

Even sending them to Myanmar sounds like a more plausible option. At least that place does not have global attention.

Thailand has adopted the QBZ191 chambered in 5.56mm though, unfortunately no 5.8mm. Maybe we'll get some performance data from the Thai Royal Army. Apparently the Thai special forces guys like it. We'll see.

Yeah adopting 556 would still be the right move for Thailand. Economy of scale of 556 is greater than 58 outside of China.
