To appear 'cool' in a staged photoshoot. That photo in my post is a cropped version of the original, whose composition followed the ridiculous and well-worn formula of one soldier pretending to point at something with his gun while his comrades rush forward in a heroic blur. I just couldn't impose such cringe on the forum.

Creature comforts?
When you have to stand to in a prone posture, a mono/bipod is sure as heck more comfy, as can be attested by the number of SAW gunners that can be found snoozing during those times :lol:
But yeah, as is typical with a lot of PLA publicity photos, probably optics for public consumption
Was thinking why don't they just use new army sight but then saw this didn't have fiber optic. Probably a cheap battery powered copy.
