Hi horse,

What's the opinion among Canadians regarding Meng extradition? Will Trudeau be resigning and leaving politics this year or stay since the rat pack is back again with Biden and others except for Merkel?

Japanese filmmaker Ryo Takeuchi, who made an hour-long documentary earlier this year capturing China's battle against the COVID-19 pandemic and the process of healing in Wuhan, once the epicenter of the China’s coronavirus outbreak, has stressed that it was his own intention to cover COVID-19 stories in Wuhan rather than being asked or paid to, as some people outside China look askance at the documentary which has won widespread praises in and out of China.

I am looking forward for his next project "poverty alleviation"
Ryo Takeuchi, a Japanese director who knows China well and made a series Chinese-related documentaries, attended the forum of the 10th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) and shared in the interview his next documentary project, which is still closely related to China.
On the afternoon of August 28, the "International Academic Forum on Cinematic Arts: A New Journey of Chinese Films in the New Era" of the 10th BJIFF took place at the Beijing Yanqi Lake International Convention and Exhibition Center.
As one of the guests, Takeuchi shared his experience in creating documentaries. He is accustomed to choosing his methods of expression based on the content being created. The starting point of documentaries, science fiction films, and action films is real life, so he doesn't believe there should be restrictions on the theme.
Next project is about China's poverty alleviation
This is Ryo Takeuchi's most recent documentary, its a long video. But quite a good watch. Its about how China was able to score the ultimate victory of still being able to prosper after beating Covid-19. All this while the rest of the world is still in lockdown.

He is abit like Alex from Reporterfy Media. But in his own Japanese style.

What a great guy! He covers not only the great things happening in China. But also how well his Japanese compatriots are doing in China. He brings the truth to fellow Japanese, that there is nothing to fear about China's rise. The fact that he is based in Nanjing, of all places, tells us how honest he is in trying to promote positive Japan-China relations.

Hi ansy1968,

Although I got no evidence, I believe that the majority of the Canadian public tows the line that since this arrest was part of the extradition treaty with the United States, then Canada should extradite Meng after the court process. I would believe it is either a 60-40 split, or a 2 to 1 majority of the Canadian public wants to see the extradition happen due to treaty obligations between Canada and the United States.

What China did with the arrest of not 1 but 2 Canadians inside China, then sentence three more to death row, that was a big mother friggin F you if there ever was one. Canadians were shocked by that, those paying attention. People were watching hockey, they did not care too much.

The mainstream attitude I find to be gutless and dishonourable. The point is to bring your people back. But the Canadian government, because the Canadian public feels like they must standby the extradition treaty with the United States, and that way Canada can stick it to China, they support the extradition.

That is a real problem and I hate it. People in Canada, are willing to see fellow Canadians sit in a foreign jail, so they can feel good about themselves when they get to extradite Meng. If that even happens.

This episode has proven to me beyond any doubt that white Liberalism ideology in Canada is bankrupt beyond repair. The average person does not care who sits in jail as long as they feel good about themselves.

That is why I feel the Chinese Communist Party kind of backed off hitting out lashing at Canada, unlike Australia where the trade attacks never stopped and continue. CCP in my view accurately saw the situation that Canadian government is just trapped by it own stupidity by the initial arrest, then next the government was trapped by the voting public to not make a prisoner exchange.

My view it was the stupid attorney general who gave the decision for the arrest and not the prime minister. It probably had to do with woman rights and minority rights. That is why no one else stepped in to prevent this mess.

Apparently Meng Wanzhou transferred through 9 different countries with extradition treaties with the United States and every single one of them declined to have anything to do with this arrest. How stupid is that? And we cannot say anything because that person is a woman and a minority. Fuck this shit.

The court case, seems to be very weird. I am not a lawyer, and do not understand the court system. The way it is going in court, it does not seem to be going the way for the crown or prosecution.

There is at least three avenues for the defence to argue,

1) there is no basis in law for this arrest as it must conform to Canada law too this arrest warrant.

2) Meng Wanzhou legal rights were violated, which seems like entrapment, by the Canadian border guards and Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

3) That 3 hour interrogation at the border, that information could have been shared with the FBI which is an abuse of process, if that is what the lawyers are saying. One of the RCMP guys on duty when the arrest was made, refused to testify. No one really knows why. He got a lawyer and the lawyer says do not speak to the police or the courts. So this guy told the court he will not be around to present evidence. The funny thing is, was that policeman a sargent was a Chinese guy, who retired then got hired by a Macau casino as a security executive. Mr. Chang does not feel like coming back to Canada at the moment, thank you very much. If he is 65 years old, he probably getting his Canadian pension too in Macau. While two white Canadian asses are in solitaire confinement in a Chinese jail. It is about fairness, not stupidity!

But in Canada, it is all about "I want to feel good about myself."

Who knows.

Yes it is amazing when he and his family has no prior connection to China at all. Until he made Yangzhe river documentary and get to know, talk to the people living along the river. I guess he fell in love with China but also appalled at lack of knowledge on both countries about each other and decide to do something to bring awareness and understanding. He went back and met his wife Zhou Ping at work in NHK, Later he give up his lucrative job and decide to move to his wife home town Nanjing. His wife was against it as they give up home and comfortable life in Japan But he kept asking finally she relented and sell their home and founded video company with his own money.

It was hard struggle at first but later they found sponsor in Panasonic and some other Japanese companies. Beside documentary he does ad for Japan related companies He has long series about how people lives in each other country. Some of them are moving like the story of old japanese man who opened curry shop in Wuhan. He has no money and has to buy meat on credit from Chinese shop owner and she give him the meat. His restaurant is a success with student crowd. During pandemic his shop assistant ask him to temporary resettled in her village since he has no family left. It show the kindness and caring of the average people in China. There are many stories of old people die alone in Japan. Yes he is Confucians he travel each month to visit his parents

Hi Hendrik_2000,

The best thing is he choose to live in Nanjing instead of other Chinese city where the Japanese has committed a massacre. And the way the Chinese accepted him as a person instead of his ethnicity shows the Chinese maturity, That itself for me is the main story.
