Well first I saw this:

with what looks VERY like an Independence class at the SW corner of the inner harbour. Then I found these:

Jai Hind 'copycat' insults aside, this appears to be an odd move for PLAN given USN can't seem to rid itself of LCS fast enough!

I don't think China will use this hull design for littoral combat ship roles. Fancy "high-tech" designs comes and goes, unless the balance between economy of usage and and high tech design can be achieved, they will fake away due to high operation costs.

Using this hull design for search and rescue ship means China is only experimenting its effectiveness through actual usage in high sea.

LCSs in US navy will be like the Boeing built Pegasus class hydrofoil, a high-tech missile attack boats many have already forgotten that it once existed.

The trimaran frigate concept is a cancelled project and has no takers for export.

The rescue trimaran, there is only one or two of them and these were built a long time ago. That doesn't suggest being a successful project.

USNI is looking too much into things. Its the first time an Independence class LCS is in the vicinity so the PLAN won't miss the rare opportunity to examine and collect its signatures, and you won't know whether the ship will be back so it will be a rare chance indeed. It hasn't been back since.

Well, for a rescue ship, you want it to be fast and to have a large deck.

A trimaran hull-form does have these advantages. But you don't need large numbers of rescue ships.

You actually don't need a dedicated rescue ship when that's the job of coast guard and navy ships.

Advantage of trimaran hull is the enormous aft deck. The proportion of this deck is bigger in relation to the overall size of the ship with a conventional hull.

Where the concept blows is the maintenance of an all aluminum hull against sea water. This seems to be the issue plaguing the Independence class LCS. It may have been an issue with the Type 022.

Can you elaborate on the problem of the all-aluminum hull?
