Impressive progression on what at the end of the day is "just" an MLU. I guess PLAN does put some significant value in retaining these hulls, instead of shedding them while receiving new builds.

Indeed. The question is, why?

This is my personal guess, but from experience with the sector there are probably dynamics entirely separate from operational requirements for PLAN. Sometimes it can just boil down to a certain yard having good ties to the powers that be, pushing for work. Not saying this is per se the case here, but its definitely a factor in domestic politics. Who knows.
