She is looking more and more beautiful each and every day. Now I know why people gets so excited watching their nations carrier being built.:)
Exactly...and make no mistake, this IS a Chinese carrier. They have taken all that they learned from refitting the Varyag, created all of the specifications, and requirements they have, made all of their own drawings, and now have built it from scratch, from the keel up themselves.

Quite an achievement.

Heck...I am not even Chinese and I am excited about seeing it happen. One need not agree with all they do, or their government form, to have respect for their achievements.

One day within the next couple of years, this new carrier will be out doing trials and the Liaoning will pull up next to her and you will see two large Chinese carriers exercising together.

I love to see those pictures of deck and air operations going on. Here those two are with a little higher resolution:

The most I have seen on deck to date, is still eight. In these pics:

But I still believe they either already have, or will operate/exercise with more.

One day we will see an actual PLAN Photo Op showing 16 on deck and four in the air like this CGI shows:

Ongoing PLAN J-15 Pilot Qualifications on the Liaoning, CV-16, Aircraft Carrier

Recently another group of pilots went through initial qualification training off of the PLAN Aircraft Carrier, Liaoning, CV-16. They have certified several groups of pilots since commissioning the carrier. They seem to be using six to eight J-15 production aircraft each time they do this.

We known and have seen that the PLAN has received one or two "batched" of production J-15 aircraft totaling 18 aircraft. 100-117. In that time, aircraft number 117, along with its pilot was lost in a mishap, but they still have at least 17 aircraft, and indications are that another batch has been produced or is on the verge of being produced.

With the second Chinese carrier about to be launched within a few months, and strong indications that the initial manufacturing of a third carrier has begun, the Chinese are going to continue to need qualified pilots, so this endeavor will continue.

What follows is three posts of pictures from a documentary film the PLAN put out regarding this experience.
