PLAN Fleet supply vessels

Don't worry, Yankee is perplexed by this as well.

Do you still remember which Chahuahui podcast? Because I did come across with one particular comment in Bilibili by someone who mentioned about the Guancha Trios talking about the replenishment ships in one of the podcasts, though I couldn't find it.

901 is suitable for short and long distance expediction with any PLAN aircraft carrier group, like visit to South America or for a long 2 or 3 months at sea. For normal deployment in West Pacifics, or as far as the Gulf of Aden, 903A is sufficient because they have a logitic base in Djibouti.

The experience with 901 for the past years probably made PLAN think that 903 is more than enough, and used of 901 in seas around China is over-killed.
Or PLAN is not entirely happy with 901 performance and there is 901A in the making.

Yes, but it's paid.

This was a particularly good episode so if anyone is interested and able to get it, I recommend.

Some notes from the latest paid 察话会 episode:

I don't remember the exact details so take this with a little bit of salt, but he said he was quite perplexed by it and even argued with someone about it. He also heard some noise or maybe he has credible info, that there will be more 901s. Just not sure why none have shown up so far.

Or PLAN is not entirely happy with 901 performance and there is 901A in the making.

Or that, to put it in more general terms - The PLAN is currently rethinking and deliberating how future UNREPs should be like. The short-notice appearance of (at least) 4-6x 903A AOEs under construction and zero orders for the 901 AOE could be pointing towards the PLAN still working on how they would like their future UNREP fleet to consist of and to function, whilst ordering a couple more 903A AOEs to fill the UNREP gap of a still steadily-expanding PLAN fleet.

Moreover, last I recall seeing an offhand comment on Bilibili, where apparently the Guancha Trios mentioned in a Chahuahui podcast that the PLAN is looking to emulate the USN in the UNREP domain (i.e. procuring more Lewis & Clark and John Lewis, instead of developing Supply-successors). Not sure where that podcast is, and whether this claim is actually factual.

Those two classes are as large as the Supply ships tho (but slower). 903s are much smaller than 901s.

Just as mentioned above: There is a possibility where the PLAN higher-ups is currently working on formulating what they really need for their future UNREP fleets. And if this holds true, then it is likely that the PLAN hasn't finalized their plans for what kinds of UNREP ships they want as of present, meaning that the 2nd batch of 903As could be procured as a stopgap measure in order to fulfill the growing UNREP demand by a steadily expanding PLAN.

That's my own inference on the matter.
