I would have thought we would have seen a 3rd Type 901 under construction by now, which does raise some questions.
Don't worry, Yankee is perplexed by this as well.

Or PLAN is not entirely happy with 901 performance and there is 901A in the making.901 is suitable for short and long distance expediction with any PLAN aircraft carrier group, like visit to South America or for a long 2 or 3 months at sea. For normal deployment in West Pacifics, or as far as the Gulf of Aden, 903A is sufficient because they have a logitic base in Djibouti.
The experience with 901 for the past years probably made PLAN think that 903 is more than enough, and used of 901 in seas around China is over-killed.
Do you still remember which Chahuahui podcast? Because I did come across with one particular comment in Bilibili by someone who mentioned about the Guancha Trios talking about the replenishment ships in one of the podcasts, though I couldn't find it.

Those two classes are as large as the Supply ships tho (but slower). 903s are much smaller than 901s.looking to emulate the USN in the UNREP domain (i.e. procuring more Lewis & Clark and John Lewis, instead of developing Supply-successors
