PLA Navy news, pics and videos

I think it's a moot point because @SamuraiBlue doesn't appear to understand the difference between canards and main wings; or if he does, he made the mistake of conflating the absence of canards with the complete absence of wings or control surfaces. If the latter is the case, then I don't know how he could have made that mistake, seeing the depiction of the round clearly shows a pair of rather large wings located at the aft of the round.

In other words, his lack of comprehension is of a far more elementary nature, one that hides in your blindspot, thus requiring a steep dive toward a lower intellectual plane in order to reveal.
wait ... I would've thought in your chart:

the dashed line concerned a ballistic path!

(I now quickly got from a ballistic calculator: 72 km range assuming 900 m/s at the muzzle and 60 degrees of elevation; I think such a long range should be achievable these days with some kind of a booster even for a pretty light 130 mm SABOT);

but now I'm not sure if you perhaps meant "main wings" would be used in the flight profile of the dashed line?? (and in the flight profile of the solid line both wings AND canards would be used)

the way out could be as accurate translation as possible of the legend of the dashed line, thanks

Scientist’s honor sheds light on PLA’s electric warships
Versatile researcher who developed electric propulsion system and new panels for solar generators gets a namecheck from Xi Jinping
By ASIA TIMES STAFFJULY 24, 2018 6:34 PM (UTC+8)

China’s state papers have praised a military scientist whose contributions could reportedly make the People’s Liberation Army’s next-generation warships “realize full electric propulsion”.

Prof. Xiao Fei, head of a research institution at PLA’s Naval University of Engineering in Wuhan, last week received a first-class merit citation in an honor list signed by President Xi Jinping, who also heads the Central Military Commission.

Xiao’s research concentrates on reconfiguring future warships’ powertrains in order to supply more power to shipborne weapons systems.

“A first-class merit citation is very rare in peacetime, which means Xiao’s contributions to China’s naval development are extraordinary and remarkable,” Wang Yunfei, a naval expert and retired PLA Navy admiral, told the People’s Daily.

The PLA Daily reported that Xiao, 41, led a team that drove research and innovation that helped the Chinese Navy to surmount vital technical hurdles during the modernizing of its nuclear submarine fleet. It also helped develop highly efficient steam turbines for the nation’s first homemade aircraft carrier.

But it was Xiao’s original research into an electric powertrain, namely, a medium-voltage direct current (MVDC) integrated power system that earned him a mention from President Xi. The MVCD was devised for a prototype of the nation’s shipborne full electric propulsion system.

The benefits of integrated electric propulsion are mainly the ability to place the electric motors closer to the propeller to shorten the shaftline and reduce space lost to funnels. This obviates the need for a gearbox or controllable pitch propellers, as well as giving designers the freedom to run all propulsion and ship services from a single prime mover for much of the ship’s life, thus dramatically reducing engine running hours and emissions.

At present there are only two types of warships among navies worldwide that are powered entirely by electricity: the Type 45 Daring- class anti-aircraft/missile destroyers of the British Royal Navy, and the US Navy’s futuristic-looking Zumwalt-class destroyers. The former has two 21.5 MW diesel generators to generate electricity while the latter harnesses power from permanent-magnet electric motors.

Technologies developed by Xiao’s team will be used on the Type 052E destroyer, an improved version of the Type 052D, and might possibly be employed in the nation’s future nuclear-powered carriers.

The Global Times additionally revealed that Xiao’s MVDC power system is also the foundation of an electromagnetic gun system which, China claims, is the first operation-ready railgun to feature on a warship.

The colossal Type 055, China’s 10,000-ton class destroyer, is very likely to see an improved powertrain with electric propulsion in the near future.

According to the PLA Daily, Xiao is also the inventor of new microgrid panels for wind and solar power generators which enable stable power supplies for Chinese troops deployed on islands and atolls in the South China Sea.

When they start honoring someone that means something directly related to his work has been approved and is given a big thumbs up by the military commission. Which also means that his research will yield some solid form for the PLA in the near future.

I would think an IEP powered 054B and 052E might have taken some crucial steps to reality.

Lets not forget, there are three awards given, one related to medicine, but the other happens to be just as significant since it relates to an air defense system that could be both land and naval in nature.

2 carriers confirmed

Simultaneously building two flat decks ?

It could be a real turning point

And the carrier watchers are in for a treat

Notes:
2 flat deck same time
003 was supposed to be seen on drydock by Sep, the progress is ahead of the plan
004 will be seen on drydock soon
both 003 and 004 will be Nuclear powered with 90kt displacement.

The last one is quite shocking thus fueled heated discussion.

And this Lucas Han person has what sort of track record when it comes to rumors?

I’m not taking anyone’s opinion

But rumours are when you don’t have photos

We have photos and it’s high chance they are carrier modules

If they are then it will be confirmed within a week
