What I would like to personally see:
2,000t 056B with its own hangar and 8 slant launchers for extra ASW missiles
5,000t 054B with AESA MFR, 2 hangars, and 32 UVLS with quad-packing MRSAMs
8,000t 052E with 80 UVLS and 2 hangars
12,000t 055A with 128 UVLS, IEP, and rail gun and/or laser CIWS
I think a 5000t 54b would have a hard time fitting two hangers.
A 8000 t 52E would mean a radical redesign of the entire ship, by then might as well call it something else. I think 52D pretty much already used the current hull to its Max potential. Unless they can find space saving technologies, I don't know how they can fit 16 more VLS onto it.

A 4,000t OHP frigate can already fit 2 SH-60s. Actually I think even a 054A stretched by 3-4m backwards would also be able to fit two Za-28s as the two hangars would then be able to clear the RHIB garages.

As for 052E, yes it would be a major redesign, but then look at the 039B Yuan compared to the 039 Song or the 052 compared to the 052B and 052C, all very different ships but all have the same numbering system. TBH I don't really care whether it's named "052E" or "058" or "059" or whatever.

The other thing about a 054B is that a larger displacement would probably necessitate a transition into a CODOG engine arrangement from its current CODAD arrangement. If the 052C/D can make 27ish knots with this arrangement a 054B should easily be able to push >30 knots. The room should be there since diesels are generally larger than GTs. That would greatly enhance both its ASW and local AAW capabilities IMO. The 052E could use CODAG (or even COGAG).

I think a 054B might be a good ship for partial (CODLOG ?) or complete electric propulsion (IEP). The lower noise levels of these systems should help in the ASW role.

Lol that's already the idea. Pop3 stated that IEPS will be tested on 054B before implementation into the 055As.

I missed this photo. It does look like a torpedo. Very interesting about it.

I got an idea of this big blue thing. In my guess it is probably indeed a torpedo EM launcher. See my markings below.
em_torpedo_launcher1.jpg

  1. The whole set is to test EM launching torpedo in various depth of water (different pressure).
  2. The main and balancing water chambers are to maintain constant water pressures at depth.
  3. The only EM launching device that would be installed in a submarine is the device where the torpedo goes in. This would explain the size question from @superdog
  4. When torpedo is "launched" into the main water chamber, the water is pressed into the two balancing chambers.
  5. The pressure in the whole loop is maintained by some kind of releasing (water dumping) mechanism controlled by the balancing chamber probably the one on the right side.
  6. The water that entered the launch tube/chamber will be pumped back to the loop by the right side device.

Wow huge activity

999 and 868 are deployed for logistics to oversea naval base

Second Type 901 in water

And second barracks ship 89 in water

88 and CV-16
89 and CV-17

Plus a Type 901 for each

Very very good development
