Not all JL-9 have a hook?
no. Remember JL-9 is a trainer to serve both PLAF and PLAN. for example this one in PLA color.
Although the texts at the bottom says naval variant, I can not determine it belonging to either navy or air force. But it is clear that it does not have the hook.

I suspect the one in Franklin's photo does not have the hook either. The purpose of it may be to train the pilot of reading the landing assistant device and approaching speed and angles without an arrested landing. But this does not exclude the possibility of using JL-9 for arrested landing either.

That's looking good.

The aft elevator is installed.

Both sections of the island are sitting there waiting to be lifted.

But...here's what I hope to see soon:

View attachment 30667

Notice, I am showing the openings through the flight deck closed off and all of that internal work done. When we see this, then the structure will be complete.

Here's to hoping we see her looking like this within the next couple of months..

Two Aircraft elevators. How many elevators that Lioning has? It also two?

Yes...The Kuznetsov, the first in class and still operated by the Russians, had the same two. One fore and one aft of the bridge.

The Varyag (the 2nd in class which became the Liaoning) has the same two.

Now this 001A aircraft carrier, which will look very much like the Liaoning, and which you could say is the third in the Kuznetsov class, also has the same two.

Linage wise you're right, unless the 001A indeed turned out to be different enough to warrant as all new design, someone need to edit the wiki pages to reflect this linage; alas, because the 001A has no original design bureau's input or assistance as far as can be confirmed, it still warrant to be listed as 100% Chinese home-grown though.

She is looking more and more beautiful each and every day. Now I know why people gets so excited watching their nations carrier being built.:)
Exactly...and make no mistake, this IS a Chinese carrier. They have taken all that they learned from refitting the Varyag, created all of the specifications, and requirements they have, made all of their own drawings, and now have built it from scratch, from the keel up themselves.

Quite an achievement.

Heck...I am not even Chinese and I am excited about seeing it happen. One need not agree with all they do, or their government form, to have respect for their achievements.

One day within the next couple of years, this new carrier will be out doing trials and the Liaoning will pull up next to her and you will see two large Chinese carriers exercising together.
