There exists several "hangar policys" on the world. US-Navy policy is to be able to put 40% of the airwing into the hangar. Royal Navy policy is to put 100% into the hangar.

Do you have a source? I'm not aware of such 'policies' with RN but I'm no expert on RN's carrier operation. There are different requirements for different loadout. You have peacetime loadout, WT loadout and also maximum density.

If the QE 2 has that requirement, you must be talking about maximum hangar density otherwise it would severely limit the number of aircraft both F35s, EWs , helos etc to no more than 24 at the maximum which for a 70K ton carrier is pathetic especially considering the F35 is a much smaller aircraft than say the Bugs and J15s.

I may be wrong however I think the plan is to have 40-48 aircrafts of all types. This would indicate to me such a specific operational policy is incorrect because it is simply not possible to fit them all in QE's hangar bay.

Possible those % can be related to the fact that the US Navy load weapons on fighters on the flight deck with also the bombs farm, old practice USN have always do it and RN always loading in the hangar as Japanese during WWII.

Just thinking about the 001A

Was it really laid down last year ?? Maybe the steel was cut in 2014 and modules were shipped in 2015 but that is still a amazing pace

I believe this will be launched in 2016 so the next question is has anyone spotted the island somewhere? If so where ??

I always said China is late in the carrier game but their pace of work will make up for it that is now proving true

If 002 is laid down this year in 2016 and has a similar pace of construction they will have trumped the Indian carrier programme by some margin as INS Vishal has a long way to go

No, sorry, I have not.

That is, what I read in books (not the internet) over the last 40 years since I am interessted in aircraft carriers. May be, that the Royal Navy shift their policy when reestablishing a carrier force.

I'm not 100% sure but I believe the QE has weapons elevator to the flight deck so it's likely ordnance load can and will happen on the flight deck.

So 3 carriers by 2020? That would be crazy if true!
