Bases on all existing data available to the public, I think that hull in the picture is way to advanced in construction to be a carrier.

The moderator of cjdby forum fzgfzy is the one posted the picture. He is the same guy who said 001A will be launched in 2016. He seem very confident about his prediction and pretty much putting his reputation on the line over there.
He said his post will still be there for everyone to see next year and you can give him hell if he is wrong, and 001A is about 1/4 done right now. I'm now leaning towards this ship is really 001A because he make such a big deal about it. He also mentioned steel cutting for 055 should be finish about now.

The hull starts to taper a long way from the not yet built tip of the bow, a design meant for fast ship, which in not a normal hull form for commercial bulk carrier.
The "cargo hold" could be just openings for easy "insertion" of large bulky equipment into the belly of the ship.
I put more weight on the presence of security fence and guard posts as indication that this is a large and fast military ship. Anyway time will tell.

OK.........if members here now think this is a commercial vessel of some sort, such as a cargo carrier.
Then the question has to be asked, why has everyone focused on this one vessel, considering there are a large number of other similar vessels built in China every year, to which no one has paid any attention to?
Did someone originally just guess.......and say this particular photo is of an aircraft carrier, or helicopter carrier? Who started the rumour?

Well right or wrong at least we know that he is of the same mindset like many of us here that 001A will have the same hull design as Liaoning. Also that hull in the picture is way past 25% unless of course he meant 25% as in the entire construction phase of a whole carrier from a standpoint of timeline.
In that case the carrier will be completely done by 2017/2018. That would be quite an achievement for PLAN and very aggressive schedule.

Yeah.. he pretty much say 001A have the same hull design as Liaoning but around 5% larger. There will be some changes to the island but not any smaller than current Liaoning. He think it will be launched around April-2016, and then 30 months more to finish it. We will see next year.
If it is indeed 001A then they have made ALOT of progress in the past few months given the fact that only this year did we start seeing this structure and now its already 1/4 of the way finished so it looks like 2016 will be a pretty interesting year for us on SDF.
Well, never mind the fact that that picture's construction itself looks far more like a commercial vessel, let's just address the timeline.

Sorry...these carriers take about four years to build...more if it a larger US nuclear carrier. If it is 1/4 done now, there is no way it will launch next year...it would launch in 2018.
But I still do not believe that is a carrier.
Time will tell.
If it/s 1/4 done in terms of overall fitting out of subsystems I think that would make the claimed april 2016 launch sound reasonable.

As for everyone calling this a commercial cargo ship, let's remember that they have to put in all the important subsystems (think engines) before "sealing" the hull up for the flight deck. So there's no reason to rule it it being a carrier just yet.
Also, if it were a cargo ship I think it should have been constructed far faster as well.
