Also what happened to all my likes? LOL Did the data migrate over to the new system?
Anyway thanks webby.. we appreaciate you working hard to keep this site up and running for all of us.

as much as I too will miss my likes, what is tragic is the body of work, much of it irreplaceable that will be lost to history??? all of bd's posts, Jeff, Kwai, Deino, TP and others, I just can't bear to think about that.

This is far worse than loosing my one and only copy of Janes All the World's Aircraft prior to the computer age and this is no criticism of Webby, but it is certainly heart breaking, I still had the post that contained Dr. Songs J-20 aspirations, written so many years ago, and translated here on SDF, some real treasure has been lost at sea???

Has anyone heard if a giant wall being built at Dalian? I read it recently and forget from where. Supposedly there were some new condos that were built and they apparently have a perfect view of Dalian and for spying so a giant wall was built to hide Dalian from view.

It is mentioned today in the Daily news of Marine Forum:

CHINA
To shield aircraft carrier LIAONING from „spying“ from new high-rise buildings, the Chinese navy reportedly has erected an 800-m-long, 22-m-high wall between the Dalian naval base and parts of the city.
But the ship will be there rarely so if it concerns a flattop it is likely the building of the next one.

would it not be better if they just built a smaller wall around the building basin itself, rather than build one around whole shipyard?

the crazy thing is the closest J-15 looks to me to be using Taihang engine. But then again, i've always had difficulty telling them apart.

You mean Great Wall of China??;)

No, he's talking about the wall that the Chinese government is building around the Dalian shipyards which Delft quoted from the MarineForum as saying:

Actually I really don't understand, why the military needed to build a wall over the shipyard to shield the development of aircraft carrier from civilian prying eyes from nearby high rise building. I mean, in my country, if there is a sensitive military or otherwise project going on, there will not be a high rise building nearby that could spy the development there... and my country is soooo small as compared to China... worst come to worst our government would set up regulation to prevent the opening of windows area that would otherwise provide a view from there to look into the 'secret' or 'high sensitive' area.

What the Chinese military want have to balanced against other considerations. Land around Dalian shipyard also happens to be prime beach front real estates. Dalian is known as a popular resort town in China. Tourism is big business. Develop the land around the shipyard, and build the security wall, is a net economic gain.
The situation is similar in other parts of China. For example, the airfield where J-20 is been tested, when it was built it was on the outskirt of the city, but several decades of fast development later, now it is completely engulfed in the city.
