Not to mention some of the much needed ergonomic improvements not arriving until ~2010(!) with the 95-1, and still offering almost no modularity improvements. Combined with the DBP10 fiasco, looking back the whole thing was a bit of an avoidable shitshow.
What are you referring to with the "DBP10 fiasco?" I am unaware of any such incidents.

DBP10 was designed as a universal ammunition for rifles, LMGs, sniper rifles, and GPMPs, aiming for unified logistics. However, it's not actually very compatible with rifles, despite targeted optimizations; wear and failure rates are more severe compared to the DBP95. Nevertheless, the DBP10's performance is definitely better than the DBP95.

DBP10 was intended to be a universal cartridge for rifles, LMGs, sniper rifles, and GPMPs, but its pressure is a bit too high for rifles, resulting in more wear and a higher failure rate compared to the DBP95.

This is why there's widespread feedback that the QBZ-191 and DBP191 offer a better user experience – because the pressure has been reduced.
So literally M855A1 all over again, but yeah they finally got rid of the ridiculous idea of a 5.8mm GPMG

Rather than changing the bullet to fit all weapons, they've now made weapons built around the bullet. Seems to be working a lot better now.

NGL it's comical how poor the army is compared to both of the other branches, by 2016 the PLAAF already had proper world class jets but it took until the mid 2020s for the PLAGF to finally look like a proper modern army, and they still don't issue ear pro as much as they should be.
If you think PLAGF is bad wait till you see the Canadian Army and USMC.

I wouldn't say they're entirely poorly equipped, their vehicles are adequate.
PLAGF still has really old MBTs in service like ZTZ-88 and depending on who you ask stuff like the ZTZ-59 and 69 are still in service though as trainers only. It's hard to modernise as they just have too many people and old vehicles, IMO they could start looking at a potential downsize, advancing technology should reduce the number of troops needed anyways.

Issues with bad QC and materials during initial introduction leading to poor performance and reliability. Meaning the 95-1 didn't see mass service with its intended potential until mid to late 2010s, despite the end product just being an acceptable 80s-90s era service rifle. And yeah, that era was also when the "one bullet, 6/7 weapons" nonsense peaked.
