It isn't used as in it isn't used right now. If you ask someone if the XM8 is used in the US, realistically, they are going to assume you mean "now" and not "yeah, it's used in 2008 but not now." Otherwise, you might as well just include every one-off prototype that China has used. That's right.
However, you mistakenly wrote "it isn't used" .

What’s the ugly box for? Collecting shell casing or something else?
Either way it is one of the ugliest attachments I’ve seen on a gun…
Wonder if they are being frugal and reload the casings after they are done. Alternatively they may want to keep track of the ammo fired during exercise to ensure that they are not resold.Yea, it’s a casing collector. I really hate these things as they are great at causing malfunctions by sending casings back into the breach.
I only use them when shooting on farmer’s land out of courtesy to not leave any spend casings lying around.
Not sure why police would want to take the hassle and risks of this to be honest. If they need to discharge their weapons in public, spend casings would be the least of anyone’s worries.
It’s a public demonstration op in a public area. Like others have said, safety and ammo accountability are big priorities, especially for LEO.Yea, it’s a casing collector. I really hate these things as they are great at causing malfunctions by sending casings back into the breach.

They're limited service because those programs were canned. The MPS originally had a specific police SMG program to replace Type 79 but it crashed and burned so they had to piggyback on PLA procurement. On the topic of submachine guns, there were a couple attempts to replace the Type 79 in police service prior to the more widespread adoption of the CS/LS7. The CS/LS5, JH16-1, and BJC-16 has seen limited service in various municipal police tactical units.View attachment 173302View attachment 173304View attachment 173306View attachment 173305
