That report is from ntd, a media outlet established by the Falun Gong. So take that report with a truckload of salt.
FLG media always spin things in the most moronic way possible, the original message only says that the bulletproof steel plate has been replaced with regular steel plate, when it comes out of FLG media it suddenly becomes Indian superman punching through steel plates with their bare hands, everyone know there has being no gunshot exchange at Sino Indian borders yet. Interpret the original message for what it is, not what came out the rear end of FLG media.

Most likely true. Wouldn't have so many people paying attention to it if it wasn't. It's too niche a thing to be made up and corruption in Chinese leadership and industry is almost cultural. Things like this is why the Japanese used obsolete Japanese vessels to sink the Chinese navy using the latest and greatest imported German ones of that time, pre-WW2 Sino Japanese war. The corrupt Chinese commanders sold the guns off to pay off gambling debts.

偷工减料 is rife in the industries. It may not apply to every single one but compared to western nations and Japan/Korea, China has a long way to go before this culture can be eradicated and it needs to be. Really pathetic. Goes back to Chinese people needing to one up each other with brand names and outward expressions of wealth. Primitive thinking. When can we get rid of these attitudes. It really holds China back. Why are the executives fired and not executed? They must have friends in high places.

Can you imagine Chinese ICBMs being equally compromised? Yikes.
NTDTV is the media which belongs to Falun Gong, a PROFESSIONAL anti-Chinese organisation, and it's not the first time for those bastards that tried to spread rumours and fake news of every damn thing about China.

And this video, well it has nothing to do with the story from the chat history that presented in NTDTV’s “News”. How did that Chinese soldier get injured? Is it really because of the “Easily breakable” body of the vehicle? Don’t get trapped by those possible trolls, looks like NTDTV was just connecting two unrelated things. (Even the chat history could be fake, just to remind)

Please put your own pants back on. If it weren't for SanLu like scandals and a history of shit like this being rife, I would also have written it off immediately. Only because it's so common, I said I wouldn't be surprised. Where in my post did I say this is true?? It was clear my personal judgement would be this is probably true because it's unfortunately common.
Let’s not pretend to be “Neutral”.
Based on your logic, you should also have doubted and pointed out that NTDTV may (or probably) have told a lie due to its bad history of creating and spreading rumours and fake news about China.
But did you?

You don't win favour with this sort of pettiness my friend. I didn't know what NTDTV. Do you know everything there is to know? I don't need to defend my position any further. I think you have me mistaken so why don't you figure out something more useful to do. It's attitudes like your's that contribute to China's problem where it makes enemies out of ordinary folks with relatively open minded or neutral positions because you are overly sensitive about the smallest things. If you read this forum you'd know I'm not one of those people who are trolling around. I don't pretend China's perfect and don't need to delude myself like Indians. So stop telling me what I am and what I'm trying to say. Just because I'm not one of those 1970s era little red book thumping zombies doesn't mean I'm a CIA/FLG shill or a HK protestor.

So you had the impression that "a history of shit like this being rife" "it's so common,", yet the best example you can give to illustrate the poor quality of Chinese military equipment is some milk powder in 2008?

I'm with everyone else -- as far as generating a useful modus operandi for looking at this kind of news (omg what a scandal!!!1!), vigilance and suspicion rather than open mindedness is preferable.

Asking others to move on when you are the one who posted this news in the first place and have chosen to use it as a springboard for discussing other issues, leaves a bad taste in everyone's mouth.

It's fine if you didn't know what NTDTV is, and no one expects us as individuals to know "everything," but in this case if you've been correctly informed the basis of this supposed news and information, the more sensible response would be complete abandonment of your position and denouncing the news that you posted before because you weren't aware it was literal FLG propaganda.
You're choosing a very odd hill to defend.

Incorrect. I didn't post this. I commented with my personal judgement since the question was asked to the thread and all its readers. If you read through everything carefully you'll notice the first post addressed to me that detailed the FLG origin of the news source (second one but the first wasn't in response to me) also happened to go on some crazy attack on me, calling me "a loser without facts" and lacking a "rational mind". I merely defended my reason for suspecting the news could be true.

There is a history of people cutting corners NOT a history of poor quality of military equipment. I think the example is befitting. Therefore it wouldn't be such a surprise to learn the manufacturer of the armour plates are using substandard grades of steel. I've been dealing with this issue at work for a while with some Chinese contractors who do everything right for the sample batches and then proceed to slowly degrade the quality over time. One particular example with regards to steel as well, a Chinese manufacturer slowly left out vital metal working processes in some nuts they manufacture which led to sudden catastrophic failure and upon months of investigations (because the failure left over $10M in damages to equipment) it was discovered the factory foreman was skipping steps in hardening the material. The reason for that was to save the factory a measly sum of money.

Get your heads out of the sand. You can start by growing a thicker skin. I'm not even one of those FLG trolls and vehemently pro-China pro-CCP and there's no need to make such a drama out of a small, and accidental criticism. I stand corrected on this particular piece of news but there is definitely an underlying problem or at least a former problem that immediately made me assume the news was true. It being in Chinese added to the trustworthiness and since my Chinese is far from ideal, correcting me I think should have been enough. In any case, I hope cutting corners becomes increasingly rare in China and it seems to be traveling in that direction.

My mistake.

It is unfortunate that the disapprovals made of your commentary regarding the article were slightly personal in nature, but I hope that also lets you understand the sheer lack of credibility that FLG associated media has.

It's fine to defend yourself against the personal nature of other people's posts, but you'd be far better off if you also openly acknowledged and recanted your original interpretation of the article now that you've realized that it is FLG associated media.

I think the discontent resulting from this article was unnecessary and could have been resolved with more politeness on everyone's part, but if there's a lesson to take away from this, is that FLG associated media is treated with great contempt and hostility here.
