Just found this by chance while surfing the Youtube today! :D
I guess everyone is interested in what PLA are eating nowadays... so here it is!

TYPE 09 Infantry Ration - Menu 1 : Bean Sludge Rice

TYPE 09 Infantry Ration - Menu 2 : Mixed Fried Rice

TYPE 09 Infantry Ration - Menu 3 : Chicken Fried Rice

TYPE 09 Infantry Ration - Menu 4 : Flat Bean Beef Fried Rice

TYPE 09 Infantry Ration - Menu 5 : Soy Sauce Fried Rice

PS: I searched and found a very very old thread dating back 10 YEARS AGO ( from 2005!
https://www.sinodefenceforum.com/chinas-mre.t466/page-4#post-13120) that was also to do with Chinese MRE - and I thought it might break forum rules to "necroing" old thread (reviving old thread which is usually an offence in majority of forums on the internet) so I created this new one.

It seems the PLA army rations have improved significantly over the years - compare to what they had back in 2005 and the tin-can version even earlier. The packaging is more or less inline with he American design - clearly identifiable, no frill packaging. Compare to the older version back in 2005 when they just started to produce the MRE, the difference is quite clear.

Personally I wouldn't mind any of the menu (with exception of Menu 1 Bean Sludge) if it is served to me, I probably would prefer Menu 9 and 10 though.

The Heater seems less power full then the one used on the Japanese Type 2 Ration and less user friendly then the South Korean which comes preloaded with water only needing to pull a string to start mixing ( Even comes with a disposable Tray ) IT is however light years beyond the current issue Tawanese C Rat which is little more then a Clone of vintage US C Rations Although they say they are working on a MRE style.

Yeh I have seen the Japanese MRE on youtube too, looks very impressive - they even got a hole to vent the steam! The South Korean MRE I have not seen yet (goes to check youtube).......

Call it bean casserole and you will polish off every bit and morsel.

LOL, probably.
Well strictly speaking, "豆沙" straight translation means "bean sand" which a more proper translation should be 'bean paste' - I call it "bean sludge" because it looks more gluggy than a paste because of high water content.

I checked out the South Korea MRE. VERY IMPRESSIVE indeed!
I really like the packaging, I think it is probably the best MRE packaging I have seen so far.

Before seeing the last two threads, I seriously thought that Chinese soldiers simply can't live without rice. There is a term in the Chinese military called 小米加步枪, or rice/millet plus rifle. Nobody has ever given any thoughts into breads or noodles until now. Also, when it comes to meat contents, no sure if the PLA rations are as rich in protein as American and other NATO MREs.

Rice is only a main staple SOUTH of the yellow river. Northern China is mostly based on wheat related food, like noodles and buns. In fact, most Northern Chinese eat so little rice that they don't feel "full" when rice is served as the only main carb for the meal.
