That wouldn't be fit the hype of "moment comparable to when J-20 first appeared".... but at the same time, it seems a year or so early for H-20 to make its debut.

And we haven't heard much solid about the naval 5th generation fighter either (whether its F-31 v3 or a J-20 derivative), and JH-XX seems even more dubious.


Atm I don't think anyone else is making any noise about any big movements yet, and I'm not sure what to make of angadow's track record for predicting big events should be judged as.

Since we're playing a guessing game in anticipation (hope it's not a false alarm), I'll guess it's Chengdu's new naval 5th gen design to compete with SAC's naval FC-31 for China's next carrier fighter.

It is doubtful that both CAC and SAC will build demonstrators for the carrier 5th gen competition. If CAC does build a carrier 5th gen design, then it would suggest they would already have won.

But of course we have yet to hear anything about whether CAC or SAC have won the carrier 5th gen competition yet, which is a detail we would almost certainly know of before a new aircraft is unveiled.


If something does emerge over the next few days, and if it is on the scale of J-20s unveiling, then based on the accumulative details and rumours and timetables that we know of for various projects that the air force has in the oven, H-20 would make the most sense... Even if it is a year early based on my projection.

I have calculated with your chart and Henri K numbers your a little more generous 2 birds for this year :)
but 176 Bde is a OEU but also OCU and have 2 types with J-16 surely she get at least 10 - 12 J-20 about 50 % ( Huitong say now 6 minimum ) plus some others out for test the first for static tests testing airframe service life etc... so i think PLAAF can have if the bird is ready, tactical employment finished etc... the first disponible for a Rgt early/spring 2018

Just because J20 unveiling was used for comparison, doesn't mean the person is talking about aircraft reveal. Maybe j20 comment was just one to illustrate the magnitude. So it could theoretically be a ship, a submarine, even a tank.

Of course, since it is just teasing, it is best not to look into it too much and lay back, wait a week and see if anything happens.
