Is this the Y-8Q? Why does the plane look more like a Y9 than Y8?


Since it is de fact a Y-9. Officially labelled at first the Y-8 Category III airframe, the KJ-200 (aka the Y-8GX-5) was the first type to use this refined airframe, which lacked the rear-loading ramp for the dedicated special mission types. Later the true Y-9 was developed using most changes of this Cat. III configuration like the front section, the new tail and especially the uprated engines & props and added again a rear-loanding ramp
