By the name "silk road eye" it sounds like the first customer would be Pakistan. I would say it is almost tailor made for Pakistan.

The last paragraph
"compared to earlier type, "silk road eye" utilizes new APAR antenna, China is the only country able to provide such type of AWAC aircraft on the market".

This sounds to me that "silk road eye" uses the same APAR technology as KJ-500, "full digital phase modulation". That is indeed the only one.

About the stripe, the E-2D APAR is a hybrid mechanical / digital phased array. If it's stated to be APAR, and appears to have mechanical features, it's probably an equivalent of the radar on the E-2D.

There seems to be conflicting statement of AN/APY-9 on E-2D.

While the APY-9 does rotate inside the E-2D’s dish-shaped radome to achieve 360-degree coverage, the crew of the aircraft can control the antenna rotation speed to focus on an area of interest according to NAVAIR. Further, the 18-channel passive phased-array ADS-18 antenna has the ability to steer its radar beam electronically. It also incorporates an electronically-scanned identification friend or foe system.

saying that it is active array (Figure 1). However nowhere did it mention DDS (Direct Digital Synthesis).

KJ-500 is outstanding because it is DDS APAR, one step ahead of other APAR (analog phase shifter), two steps ahead of passive.

IF this "silk road eye" use the same tech (DDS) as KJ-500, it is likely more advanced than E-2D. Yes, they are in the same arrangement (mechanical + electrical steering hybrid).



It is funny that USNI dare to claim E-2D is able to counter stealth. KJ-2000 and even more so KJ-500 are better positioned to counter stealth than E-2D. Even for them, it would still be a challenge IMO. I would rather believe your earlier post regarding KJ-500 (1450km at 0dbsm = 0.01m2 at 480km) than believing E-2D. But that is another subject.​

The thing about the E-2D's SPY-9 is that it it an UHF band radar, which naturally has counter-stealth capability.

I believe the KJ-2000 has an L-band AESA, which also would give it a bit counter-stealth, but China definitely needs to move to meter-band AESA for their AWACS (also because the KJ-2000 was defeated by the J-20 during Red Sword excercise, if we believe the rumors).

Previous E-2s also had UHF radars. The frequency back then was chosen because it doesn't require too much power for given range, which was important due to E-2's relative lack of power generation. And also because E-2's mission was equally ocean surveillance as it was air surveillance, so while UHF was rather bad for aerial tasks back then, it was adequate for naval search. Of course, nowadays with stealth in equation, having some extra ability against LO targets is an added benefit.
