Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) introduces the new generation ELI-3360 Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) based on a modified Bombardier Global 5000 business-jetplatform. Designed by IAI's ELTA Group to provide maritime domain situational awareness and maritime superiority, the new MPA provides the most sophisticated surveillance, reconnaissance and armament systems to be installed on a business-jet to date.

The system incorporates the advanced ELTA ELM-2022 Maritime Patrol Radar, an electro-optical sensor, the ELL-8385 ESM/ELINT system, and a comprehensive communications suite comprising radios, broadband SATCOM and data-links as well as advanced Electronic Warfare (EW) and self-protection Suite.

The integrated multi-mission Command & Control Suite includes multi-purpose operator workstations and a weapon and stores management system which controls the under-wing weapons that may include torpedoes and anti-ship missiles for Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and Anti Surface Warfare (ASuW) as well as dispensable Search & Rescue (SAR) stores.

Fajr was a 50kg imagery Sat. with on-board Gas propellants which gives it the capability to change orbits without the carrier and thus more endurance.
The Fajr sat was put in 400km orbit of the earth and has a life span of 1.5 years

Israeli TV shows ‘Iranian missile’ that ‘can reach far beyond Europe’

misssile-e1421867594235-635x357.jpg

Satellite images taken outside Tehran feature first look at long-range missile newly developed by Iran, TV report says

iran has built a 27-meter-long missile, capable of delivering a warhead “far beyond Europe,” and placed it on a launch pad at a site close to Tehran, an Israeli television report said Wednesday, showing what it said were the first satellite images of the missile ever seen in the West.

It stressed that the missile could be used to launch spacecraft or satellites, but also to carry warheads.

The Channel 2 news report showed satellite imagery documenting what it said was Iran’s “very rapid progress” on long-range missile manufacture.

It showed one photograph of a site near Tehran, which it said the West had known about for two years, where Iran was working on engines for its long-range missiles.

It then showed a satellite photograph of a second site, nearby, which featured a launch pad, with the 27-meter missile on it — an Iranian missile “never seen before” by the West.

The missile is capable of taking a manned spacecraft or satellite into space, the TV report said.

It is also capable of carrying a conventional or non-conventional warhead “far beyond Europe,” the report added.

The TV report said the satellite images were taken by the Eros B commercial Earth observation satellite, which was designed and manufactured by Israel Aircraft Industries, launched in 2006, and is owned by the Israeli firm ImageSat International.

Israel has long charged that Iran is working toward a nuclear weapons capability, and has publicly opposed any negotiated accommodation with Iran that would leave it with a uranium enrichment capability for potential nuclear weapons use.

But Jeff, who would provide the Houthi's with anti-ship missiles or deliver the Yemeni navy into their hands? Or suppose that they would try to close Bab el Mandeb with a large international naval presence nearby that is concerned with combating the Somali pirates?

Well the Shi'ite Muslim Houthi militia coming to power now in Yemen could do so...or others. it is a nation on the brink of civil war and I believe the Egyptians and others are concerned about the overall situation.

This is what drove the initial Egyptian statement that we are discussing.

If Rebel forces gain the upper hand there near the strait...or of an unsavory group comes to power in Yemen, the threat is real. Those straits are a critical choke point for international commerce.

To punctuate the concern, Germany, Italy, Britain, France, the United States, and Saudi Arabia are all closing down their Embassy operations and evacuating their staff.

TCG-Buyukada-International-Naval-Forces-Engage-in-Exercises2.jpg

Naval Today said:
This week, warship TCG Buyukada (F-512), employed in the NATO counter piracy operation Ocean Shield, conducted several exercises with international naval forces from Japan, Australia, the Republic of Korea, and Oman.

Vice Admiral Bruno Paulmier, Deputy Commander of NATO’s Allied Maritime Command, said:

"Exercising with international forces while patrolling the joint area of operations enhances our interoperability and cooperation with our maritime partners. These opportunities also prove valuable tests of the skills among these forces."

On Sunday and Tuesday, TCG Buyukada conducted replenishment at sea (RAS) training with the Royal Australian Navy ship HMAS Success (OR 304), a multi-product replenishment oiler.

Monday, TCG Buyukada exercised with the Japan Maritime Self Defence Force ship JS Harusame (D-102), an independent deployer conducting counter-piracy in the region, testing common procedures and manoeuvres between these forces. During the interaction with the JMSDF, the Commander of Deployment Surface Force for Counter Piracy Enforcement, Captain Masatoshi Kashihara, visited TCG Buyukada and briefed on the activities of the ship in the operations area.

The Turkish Ada class frigates are very similar to the USS Freedom Class LCS...but better armed, not as high speed, only a single space hanger, and not as much modular space. I like them better actually and wish the US had taken such a route with the LCS...only with two hangers.
