I have actually have seen some of the legions handy work in GF1. They are a very very good fighting force. But this is another case in point were french politics have bit them in the buttocks. remember Algeria and the fact that the french Governments actions pissed the Legion off so bad they rebelled and almost launched a coup that was foiled. But yea the Legion is and other french units are good.

As far as the revolutionary war. Yes the French helped us out. but that was a long long time ago and the amount of harm the french have caused the U.S and the simple ungratefulness that they have shown is stunning at times. I feel They are actuly going out of their way now to cause harm to my country.

I dont think france will continue to function as a European power as they are committing cultural suicide with their liberal immigration/welfare system and the fact that Islamic fundamentalist are slowly going to multiply and may even gain control of the government or cause some great civil conflagration. I mean god forbid a french cartoonist draws a picture of a certain pirate uhhhh I mean profit. That would set off more than just 20,000 cars being burned.......all in good fun:roll: .....cheers ute

And what harm has the Frenchies done? Talking about harm, do you want to bring the US foreign policies in the last five decades into contention?

"I would rather have a German division in front of me than a French one behind me." - General George S. Patton

"What do you expect from a culture and a nation that exerted more of its national will fighting against Disney World and Big Macs than against the Nazis?" - Dennis Miller

"Going to war without France is like going deer hunting without your accordion." - General Norman Schwarzkopf

"The only time France wants us to go to war is when the German Army is sitting in Paris sipping coffee." - Regis Philbin

"You know why the French don't want to bomb Saddam Hussein? Because he hates America, he loves mistresses and wears a beret. He is French, people." - Conan O'Brien

"As far as I'm concerned, war always means failure." - Jacques Chirac, President of France

I think the reason that the French are so loath to enter a war is that they have been in so many. They lost massive amounts of lives in WWI and WWII, and before that were in almost all of the major wars of the 18,17,16 and 1500s. Even after WWII they were still in the Algerian War and the Vietnam War. Personally I believe that the French have had their share of war and want no more. Also, the French are powerful enough and are in a secure enough reigon that they do not have to fight. In addition, they are not a superpower like the US. Being a superpower entails having far-flung interets and obligations across the world, which means that conflicts are inevitable. France does not have that problem. China will soon.

Besides, France kicked the butt of some rebels in the Ivory Coast.

Ok. France have had as good and complex military history that any of the old mid-evil old european kingdoms can count on, something that many of our new-world members cannot even imigine of. The poor performance of french military in front of nazis WWII was as poor as the Polland performance was, but yet the general western cultural heritage wants to remember Polish as some sort of martyrian heroes. No armed force in continental europe apart of the Soviet Unions red army could have stopped Nazis in the hectic days of late 30's and early 40's, it was way too big transistion moment in general military strategy and what specially comes to mobile war fare.
So if you have had your share about goofing around whit French expense, I would strongly suggest all of you to read the forum rule 5:

yes, golly is right. This little post has been fun to poke fun at France but time to stop before some get their feelings hurt. When the post was opened "ONLY THE IGNORANT DARE TO CALL THE FRENCH COWARDS" was like a invitation for a cold beer on a hot day. I just could not resist.... hope I did not make anyone mad......cheers... the "ingnorant american"...utelore

Was that misspelling of ignorant on-purpose? Because if it was, that was a hilarious touch.

Building on what Goll said, I think now is a transition period from the style of warfare that appeared when the French were crushed. It is looking into a period that will be dominated by smaller forces and more technology just as the previous century was dominated by the tank, aircraft carrier, fighter plane and massive conscript armies.

And about Poland being a martyr and France being a coward, I think it is viewed that way because Poland was poor and backward and until then France had been fairly sucessful militarily.
