New U.S Armor considered 'too goofy' by U.S Troops.

Well, if it will save the lives of our soldiers and marines I think we should go for it. But the tech should be improved to the point where the cooling systems are reliable and that it will ensure life saving protection in the case of IEDs. It would also help if you could be able to be flexible enough to run to get out of that situation quickly. Because as we all know, the humvee after a well placed IED explosion is the last place you want to be, it's like the modern day version of the "tommycooker."

I personally think that this kind of suit could save lives, but not in all situatiions. There are groups in Iraq right now that are using crazy anti tank mines that have huge shaped charges that will send a football sized slug ripping through any APC, IFV and even possibly mission kill the big daddy M1. The humvee, armored or no, has no place in this kind of battlefield. I have seen way too many pics and vids of these things totally ripping hummers in half and killing everyone inside, and alot of times, the gunner will get blown out of the top of the vehicle some 20-30 feet in the air. You can't tell me that these suits will stop that kind of damage. What they need is better, more protected APCs of equal quality amongst all the services. A good example of this kind of vehicle is the Army's Stryker version APC. It has been known to survive most IEDs and still be operable after minimal reconstruction.
The thing is, the Army still doesn't have enough to distribute amongst themselves at the moment. And the Marine Corps. doesn't have anything comparable really, since most all of thier APCs have to also double as a boat, they have sacrificed some armor protection, and compared to what the Army has the Marines' APCs are obsolete.

I think that just like the JSF program there should also be a jointly held program amongst the Army and Marine Corps. and possibly some input from other interested foreign parties to develope a technologically superior APC/IFV that can also be amphibious to meet the needs of the Marines and of other possible buyers. And just like the Stryker, it should and probably would be able to mount one of many turret options such as ATGM launchers, 25/30mm cannon, that cool looking (105mm?) anti tank gun that the Stryker can have that shoots everything from SABOT to Depleted Uranium, or it could be mounted with all the crazy electronics gizmos that come with a command and control vehicle. This should then be the only next generation APC that will be used by all the services in the U.S. military and will also meet all the needs of alot of other foreign buyers. I think this will be an efficient and effective way of taking the humvee type vehicle off the battlefield.

Well, there's my 2 cents.

If you want to see how fragile the humvee is just PM me.

Generaly speaking, I have never really seen the efectiveness of a Hummer asside from possibly looking cool and being an emergency turret. Mount a TOW turret on one though and they can be a pretty efective building buster, from what I understand. Though that role could be easily be filled by an Abrams or Stryker.

Guess all those cars are really good for are carting around Officers. And from what I hear, they dont even do all that well at that.
