they are indeed very different

it just reminds me how the Merkava also gained armor and weight from it's early form to the current Mk III and Mk IV

btw we do have frontal shot of that pic

The frontal shot is simply this one which I think was posted before. The above back shots could be from an earlier date or this could be the second batch shot at the same place because the picture qualities of the two pictures are different.

still rubber skirts :(

the way they evolve this tank reminds me of the Merkava

I think most tanks have rubber skirts, some even don't at least not straight from the factory.
No need for TUSK style reactive armour to replace rubber skirts during this time... I'm pleased with the skirts myself, covers a good portion of the tracks.

the front angles are the impotent bit the sides are more a matter of specialized need. Those boxes have my attention as I wounder just what they are Storage? reactive Armor? Other?

I dont think that the chassis and turret of this tank are as good as t-99g.

they are taller and the turret is too boxy. Not good to deflect projectiles

i believe it is better than previous ZTZ-99 variants, angling does not mean much if the protection is too thin to begin with, and most side armor are only around 40-70mm thick of RHA steel, and will be penetrated by any tank fired projectiles, the new fake bustle and side+rear turret armor is to protect against RPGs

it is actually good that we see they put some thought into protecting the side (ERA is tiles possible) and rear part (slat armor) of the turret, also the rubber skirt

they are constantly uparmoring this baby

At those Chinese BBS, some said this is modernized Type 62 tanks, but Type 62 uses different suspension and thread system, these share more similarity with chassis such as the new SPAAA.
