they're basically blowing up massive amounts of capital for little gain with Starship which is massive destruction of value. I guess with the amount of money they're burning and throwing in the trash they'll get... something... operational... eventually. However I think it is possible that CZ-9 will launch a successful, full rated payload before Starship does.

BYD already is highly profitable, has Warren Buffet's backing and is completely vertically integrated from semiconductor to battery to EV. They have a commercial EV program that is already better than Tesla's. Unfortunately BYD doesn't have the lifestyle marketing that Tesla does in consumer vehicles, nor the cult of personality that Musk commands.
That was the same criticism falcon 9 had and maybe CZ-9 will launch first. Let me know when CZ-9 will be able to launch to the moon or Mars, recover and come back to Earth or even Earth orbit.

For christs sake falcon 9 and CZ-9 are different class rockets.

Sounds more like weapons in space, I thought the scientific community said just coupling a rocket next to a asteroid and slowly use gravity to nudge it off a earth collision course. Like a sort of gravity tow truck.
Yes and No. yes it’s a weapon if you are an object in deep space moving in a solar orbit. No it’s not a very effective weapon. The probe moves very slowly to reach target. It’s not the type that would be suitable to ASAT missions as though you could hit a target. The planed launch vehicle is a full sized Falcon 9. Making it a very expensive setup.
The main goal is to see it it can deflect a target at an extremely early point in a theoretical track to earth. The tractor idea has also been looked at but it requires a sufficient mass to generate the thrust and pull. That concept would basically require significantly more resources.
