The key point I took was that the Chinese movie was the highest grossing movie worldwide this year so far. Not sure what you took...
I read past the passive and meek acknowledgement of the Chinese movies block buster numbers since it had to recognize the monster money it's making in the country. But if you read through the rest of the article it's riddled with a litany of complaints and propaganda attacks on China, it's people, and the usual attack against the CPC. The Chinese cinema ain't trying to appease or please western sensibilities or seek western approval and the mere fact that Chinese cinema has gained the upper hand in terms of block buster office receipts was a given considering the size of it's population compared to the U.S. and Europe. It's only the Hollywood c..ts who can't resist to marker their movies in the Chinese market because they can't afford not to make money in that country but then loves to bitch and moan against Chinese censorship and all the usual whinings that western snowflakes and hypocrites love to regurgitate endlessly.

I wonder would Hollywood make a film about a lone white-skinned people's volunteer army soldier fighting several companies of evil UN troops made of Russian descent single-handed John Wick style after all these. :p
Jokes aside, the day of "adding a few random Chinese actors and force them into the script to show faith to our Chinese audience" is gone, if Hollywood is serious about the Chinese market, they'd better work a lot harder than playing the American exceptionalist narrative, and drop their Oriental Pearl Mindset of Asian in general (which is unlikely), I myself is more looking forward to future Chinese movies such as the "全频道阻塞干扰" and the "three-body problem" adaptations, and I really wish the CPC can sponsor more PLA and military-related movie just like how "Top Gun" was sponsored by the Pentagon

Reminds me of the Marvel Shang Chi drama that is happening. Lmao, you should've seen their reaction when the government banned it from being shown in China.

Uh, God, the name ShangQi 尚气 sounded so retarded to us, it sounded like some kind of traditional medicine that cures diarrhea, the whole cost of ShangQi looks like the Hollywood racist film producer's mental image of how Asians should look, folks in China especially dislike the lead actors and the stupid uninteresting plot, and that's the opinion of the majority after watching the trailer. I'm glad they banned it. When will they learn that American Political Correctness does not work in China? Also, every time I run into the poster of that damn movie, I can feel like it's screaming "Wigger Genocide !" and "+100000 social credit score !做得好:p!" at me, probably the side effect of browsing Youtube and Twitter, I hope the domestic film industry can capture the opportunity and produce some top-quality films, as the whole country has been severely disgusted by the western MSMs in recent years, the magic of Hollywood blockbuster in China is over

True that! Browsing through youtube regarding that drama is a one-way trip to my painkiller cabinet. Literally filled with people who are mad at the Chinese because they don't like it. Made even worst that someone said they hated how the Chinese are making movies that promote their own country over the US and Hollywood. It's the star wars drama all over again. Does anyone remember how some people in the west contributed Star Wars's low sales and popularity in China was mainly because they cast a black man as one of the main characters? Ignoring the fact that the movie wasn't even that liked in the west and a bunch of people downright hated it. The day they ban Hollywood from China completely is the day I celebrate.

Will Smith is a black man, and Man in the Black movies was quite popular back in the 2000s even the "State-Sponsored TV Channel" would play it publicly, so the problem is never about black men being the lead then. the Star Wars Series were not popular in China, it was really more of a cult culture for some guy showing how special he is on Baidu Tieba, it is only in recent years Disney hyped up the series, and still most of the regular Chinese will not get the "oh damn so nostalgia so retro heihei" sentiment with luke skywalker and whatnot, unlike the majority of the west. While Rogue one did great featuring JiangWen (姜文), one of the best Chinese directors, writers,s, and actors out there, the other films include Solo are Crap,Westerner seems to mistake the Chinese Market as a trash can that sucks up all the shitty Hollywood movie and still manages to make a profit, while the truth is most of the folk in China refer GCI blockbuster simply because they think these movie showcasing advance technology and are fine to watch with loved ones without a complicated story, so you can just turn your brain off and go on a joy ride, hence why Micheal Bay was such a success with those stupid transformer movies
