The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project is a major railway project connecting East and Western coast of the Malaysian Peninsula. It had started construction in 2017, but was suspended in 2018 by the then Sinophobic PM, Mahathir. Since then, it had restarted quietly in Oct 2022.
The ECRL was never represented objectively in much of the Malaysian media. The NED-infested alternative media in Malaysia called it debt trap (where have we heard of that before). Most Malaysians didn't get to see the actual work that was going on, and the details of actual deal that was made with Chinese companies. There was serious local participation in the project from day 1. It was never the "China take-all deal" myth that was spread by the NED media and Sinophobes. The Chinese companies did the more technically demanding work, and the financing. While the Malaysian companies did the rest.
This new government in Malaysia is not perfect. There are pockets of NED-aligned clowns in it. But there are still adults in the more senior ministry who can see things more objectively. Infrastructure is always important, without it, it is difficult to grow. Right now, based on merit, China is the best partner for major infrastructure projects. Malaysia had tried to pivot back to Japan again under Mahathir in 2018, but nothing happened after that. There are no true rivals to the BRI, period. Nobody else is gonna be even a fraction as generous, or as flexible as China. Only the Sinophobic idiots would turn away from China and beg the West for crumbs that never comes.
