2. General Aviation (GA) is known to be more dangerous than scheduled carrier service or even other commercial service precisely because the standards and regulation hurdles are much lower. So, I would wait for NTSB report. Although I wouldn't be surprised that the probable cause will, rather than foul play, be some sort of pilot error.
The amount of money and free time required to obtain a private pilot licence/certificate and buying and maintaining a small plane tend to self-select a certain kind of people -- the sort of people who either owns a small company or be an executive of a large company, with all the accompying traits.
Now, I'm not saying all private pilots who are executives or owners of company are risk-takers and over-confident to the point of recklessness, it's just that a lot of fatal GA accidents have pilots that have that sort of traits (after all, there are also a lot of fatal GA accidents involving former athletes).
Its sad, but I don't believe that this is noteworthy enough to be on this thread.
