Figures obtained by the Guardian reveal that a record 1,104 scientists and postgraduate students were rejected by Foreign Office vetting in 2022, up from 128 in 2020 and just 13 in 2016. Scientists say the scheme is leaving universities struggling to recruit the best talent from abroad.

Five Chinese scientists at Imperial college, who did not pass clearance despite having already held positions at UK universities for several years – may have to leave the UK as a result. Last year in July, a report emerged that 50 Chinese students have left the UK in the past three years.

Charles Parton, a China expert at the Royal United Services Institute (Rusi), said that a tightening of security was “encouraging”.

Plus, Ohio really is trying to win the award for "the worst US state to live in":

Ohio lawmakers want kids to work longer hours, saying it'll keep them off TikTok
  • Ohio lawmakers aim to pass a bill that extends work hours for students and decreases time on TikTok.
  • The measure, which needs House approval, already passed in the Ohio Senate, WOUB Public Media reports.
"It will allow them the opportunity to earn some extra dollars. And here's a bonus that we maybe haven't thought about – this is less time that they will be spending on social media, like TikTok and others," said Sen. Jerry Cirino (R-Kirtland), the publication reported.

Already under fire for high pay despite big investment losses, the pension system for Ohio’s retired teachers lost between $27 million and $40 million when Silicon Valley Bank failed last weekend.

“STRS has lost nearly $40 million of teachers’ hard-earned dollars after Silicon Valley Bank imploded overnight,” Executive Director Robin Rayfield said in a statement.

He added, “Not only is STRS gambling away our hard-earned dollars through active investment management, but they’ve proven to be horrible gamblers. STRS also lost nearly $10 million when its investment in bankrupt cryptocurrency platform FTX cratered after its collapse in December 2022.”

All the more reason for China to invest more in its own universities. Honestly, it shouldn’t be that Chinese scientists and students should need to go to the UK and US to pursue research.

I hope China prevents TikTok from being sold. Might as well let it die than giving away its algorithm. I recent saw something from somewhere and there was a guy who said he had friends in the social media industry who told him TikTok's algorithm is scarily good. The US can demand sell TikTok for a dollar or it gets banned. If it's sold, then it's like nothing happened. Frankly I think it's open season for China to actively undermine Meta and Mark Zuckerberg. He's dirty and he should be buried in his own dirt.

Ants Gang losing faith in America, thinks US government betrayed Guo to get on CCP's good side.

I have noticed a lot of those crazies have this belief that "patriots" can rise up and purge US government of all the pro-CCP elements, free Guo and lead them all to glory. I reckon if you say you're a proud boy raising fund for an uprising against the deep state and return Trump to power you can con a lot of money out of them.

Get some slogans going, like: 杀牛羊,备酒浆,开了城门迎川王,川王来了不纳粮。
