Absent from these articles is any indication as to why Erkin Tuniyaz is visiting the UK in the first place.

It should also be noted that these calls for the UK government to deny the visit or arrest him are coming from Conservative MPs and party figures. That is not to say that they will determine government policy, but they are not fringe activist figures either.

The British Conservative party has been taken over by fringe activists unfortunately, with the reasonable centrists largely forced out. Hardline free marketeers aligned with the European Reform Group within Parliament and various Tufton Street think-tanks without. Amusingly, after decades of plotting and conniving, they finally got a chance to implement their bizarre policies when Truss and 'Kami' Kwasi became PM and Chancellor. Unfortunately the free markets they so worshipped took one look at their plans and said "Nope! That be craaaaazy". The rest, as they say, is history.

He is visiting other European countries along his trip. It’s not just the UK. Not sure as why specifically he was chosen to go or why the Europeans would want to meet a governor anyway. The UK said he was not invited to London so therefore there would not be any ministerial meetings says their foreign minister office. Seems odd to me that the UK is eager to discuss things but on a lower diplomatic level.

He was invited to attend by the British government of course. It's a trick right out of the neocon playbook to invite someone then rescind the invitation.

It'll be interesting to see where this all goes. Unlike the US, people in the UK aren't sheep. There is virtually no popular anti-Chinese sentiment, the far right here hate Muslims, blacks and various continental Europeans in no particular order. The diaspora Chinese community isn't anywhere near anti-CCP as in America.
