Anyone catch this gem inside the article?
A lone DHS agent was quickly surrounded by screaming protestors - one waving a Soviet Union flag - as he used a baton to ward them off and continually shouted: 'back up!'

Yeah and I don't think china has any response to this at all. That's why the US keeps doing it. No repercussions.
This has been China's general strategy, which is to play defense and protect its growth while allowing the US to suffer from its own recoil damage as it tries to harm others. So far, it's been working well for China as the Chinese economy is mostly protected while the US economy suffers bout after bout. Technologically, Chinese companies have never been pushing so hard despite constant domestic pressure to do so. The enemy at the door is what was needed.

You can't fight legal measures solely with technology because legal measures are costless to implement while technology takes hard assets and labor to develop. The only way is to asymmetrically strike back with legal tools.
I mean they could isolate themselves from Chinese tech if they wanted. However, what are the costs of closing down... China can and will remain open to foreign businesses.

If the West wishes to block Chinese technology then there is a very relevant Chinese history lesson they could look into for the consequences of closing off

I think you meant symmetrically strike back with legal tools. The solution to this is a financial one - China should build up CIPS into a complete payments and messaging system and conduct transactions with all its partners outside the dollar system. This at least obfuscates these transactions and makes sanctions enforcement impossible.

So refusing to buy Russian gas directly but reverse purchase Russian gas from other European countries that resulted in higher price. That's very smart of Poland.

I don't think barring Russians from buying EU real estate would hurt Russia in fact it might help Russia. But it should alleviate some housing price pressure within EU.

I don't know, these new sanctions don't seem to hurt Russia much but probably hurting the UK more.

China is not insane, dumb, and blind to their current reality. The U.S. despite our consternations is still the king of the world, and will be so for the foreseeable future. As long as the $$ remains the reserve currency of the world, with U.S. military remaining the undisputed power in much of the world that's the situation.

It's irritating but like @Overbom stated the best China can do is hunker down and work like crazy to develop the internal market to ensure the dual circulation optimizes for China.
