I just realized that this is a great rebuttal against the Uighur genocide claim. If China is indeed genociding the Uighurs then they wouldn't be arming them and stationing them on the Sino-Indian/Western China border, where they can defect and/or rebel. Now that I think of it a significant number of armed service men (PAP and regular police officers) in Xinjiang are ethnic Uighurs. A good comparison would be with Kashmir. I don't think the Indian military uses the locals or even many non-local Muslims. I could be wrong on this so if anyone has knowledge on this, feel free to point it out.
As a Kashmiri i can tell you. Indian Army does have Kashmiris in its ranks, there's a Kashmiri regiment also called JAKLI which operates in Kashmir. But here's what happens. Only those Kashmiris who decide to sell off their own people and decide to murder for money are posted in the valley. The rest (90%) are serving in other states. In Army no Muslim (forget Kashmiri) is given a sensitive posting.
Regarding police, 95% of local police are Kashmiri but they are unarmed. Those who are armed are in units where ethnic make up is 70% Non Kashmiris and 30% Kashmiris .Almost all district police chiefs are outsider Non Muslims. This is to ensure that no police revolt ever takes place.
In short the Kashmiri version of Hanjians are used in local operations while the rest of Kashmiris are sent outside Kashmir.
