"yang has no real power, he is one hundred miles away from China's inner power circle"
Just out of curiosity where did this quote come from?

Although Yang Jiechi isn't exactly the face of China's foreign affairs, he does sit on the Politburo while Wang Yi as Foreign Minister is "merely" a member of the ~300-man Central Committee... and well the 25-man Politburo (a level above the Central Committee) is only a level below the 7-man Standing Committee, which is the top decision making body of the country. In other words Yang is very much in the inner power circle of the party. He is a friend of the Bush family, has extensive experience as Ambassador to the US, and Xi Jinping clearly values his counsel as well as his insight of the West to bring him up to the Politburo once his term as Foreign Minister was up in 2017.

then why bother to call?
I highly doubt the conversation ended in any sort of constructive change/difference, however it is imperative that both sides keep the dialogue going despite our differences in order to prevent a cold war from going hot.

This is what qualifies as "journalism" in America these days? What qualifications do the propagandists have for them to be able to discern, recognize, and infer what constitutes a building used for mass internment camp, genocide factory simply through the cursory viewing lense of Google maps and possessing no actual knowledge of Xinjiang's topographical makeup, population make up; civilian dwelling units, factories etc...What's their reference point or material used in order to ensure the utmost accuracy and authenticity of what it's alleging which was and is a very serious and insidious charge of genocide. Did they simply watch Schindler's list for reference? Also, how are they vetting these so called alleged Chinese victims of torture, abuse etc..to ensure that they --- gullible f..ng bi..ches aren't taken for a ride by these Chinese Uyghurs.

after the Alaska fiasco, blinken hated yang so much, he resorted to personal attack. he claimed "yang has no real power, he is one hundred miles away from China's inner power circle". then why bother to call?

Because no one else can bail out the trillions printed by the Feds over the course of a year. China technically can’t either but when you are desperate, you grasp at straws.

The Buzzfeed Xinjiang story is typical Five Eyes propaganda. Here's a

debunking it.

They state that this jail - which they call a concentration camp - has 10,000 people. In reality, it's 3 times smaller than an American prison with 10,000 people.

In addition, the prison is next to Kashgar, the second biggest city in the province - with over 1 million people.

So basically you have a jail of 3,000 for a city of 1 million. This is perfectly normal. Under

, you'd expect Kashgar to have 7,160 people in jail.

-----

By the way, they never mention the Kashgar fact.

Even as reporters were scribbling down his remarks, about 2,500 miles away in Xinjiang, construction was wrapping up on a massive high-security compound near the Uighur heartland county of Shufu, just south of a winding river that flows through a countryside dotted by livestock farms. Shufu is small by Chinese standards, with a population of about 300,000 people. It has a main drag with a post office, a lottery ticket vendor, and eateries selling steamed buns and beef noodle soup. The camp was built on farmland less than a 20-minute drive away.
What Buzzfeed doesn't mention is that

, Xinjiang's second-largest city.

So it is true that the prison "was built on farmland less than a 20-minute drive away" from a small rural county town called Shufu.

However, if you drive 20 minutes in the other direction, you will find yourself in the center of the second biggest city in Xinjiang, which has a population of over one million.

Funny how Five Eyes media doesn't mention little details like that.

Finally, here is a picture for proof. Left is Rikers Island, an American prison for 10,000. Right is the Kashgar prison Buzzfeed says has 10,000 people.

5 10,000 Americans in jail VERSUS 10,000 Chinese in jail Compressed.png

Rikers Island can be found by simply searching for it on Google Maps (make sure to zoom in to 500 feet):

Here's a video of Buzzfeed's prison on Google Maps (to prove it wasn't photoshopped):

The thrust of this message is for @voyager1 In this video I think that Eric Li has captured what most of us Chinese or non-Chinese China supporting people thought about the western narrative driven media. One can fault China for not building up or coming up with a media that's equal to the task; equal to the propagandist sophisticated lying done by Western media but we must not forget that these western countries are governed, run, led by the ever presence and insidious ideology that is based on supremacist mantra.

The notion that if China’s media were just as Pravda or craven like their western counterparts then all these brainwashed western public wouldn't be easily swayed are not basing their theories on history, culture and the realistic appraisal as well as appreciation for the way China has handled itself through it's rise for the past 40 years.

Let me reiterate my point, which I don't think I got across in the original post. The best case scenario for Blinken is for China not to actively sabotage the situation by keeping the Yuan high vs the dollar and injecting more inflation into the U.S., which makes Biden admin's attempts at needling China all the more baffling. For all we know Comrade Emperor Xi is just sitting in a lounge chair and sipping Oolong as things unfold across the Pacific.

But Mearscheimer is thinking along the same lines.

Unlike certain chicken-hawks Officer Gayl actually cares about the safety and well being of troops. If guys like Rubio and Cruz are so hell-bent on preserving the democratic institution in Taiwan, are they willing to enlist or at a minimum, donate more than half of their salaries to the cause?
