The Malaysian FM just called China "我的大哥“ or "my elder brother" and that Malaysia and China's friendship could best be summed up as is “我们都是一家人” or "we're one family".
Ca someone who knows about Malaysia tell us if this something new?

Because from an outside point of view "my elder brother and "we're one family" says a lot and its a big statement to make

From this starter post by the Korean-American, there are many informative comments added to give wider context.

One of those reads as below:

"excellent example of how to plant hate into children's deep memories so that they can turn into weapons at a click one day"

The linked post:

Today I'm going to show you what brainwash really is :

Cotton Picking
Slavery
Genocide
Concentration Camps
Nazi
Dictatorship
Racism
Terrorism
Freedom
Human Rights

Boom!!
Are you ready Soldier? (I really love this video)
(A THREAD )

WATCH THE VIDEO CLIP:

When certain words or information works like a switch, that easily triggers you, awakens your anger, your sense of justice, so that you can act by instinct without any doubt, and you don’t even do fact check before your actions, you might be considered, brainwashed.
(…)

And some other posts in summary:

Yeah except literally none of it is true. Even eating cats and dogs is something that only occurs in certain isolated rural areas. It's like saying "it is normal in the USA to practice incest" because it happens in some rural in West Virginia, or Alabama, or Kentucky. They go to family reunions looking for dates in West Virginia. Banging your cousin is legal in California, but not Kentucky. Yet incest is statistically highest in Kentucky, not in California.

Same thing about the polygamy just because some part of the society practice that in Utah.

And before anyone says "but WaPo is biased" (which is yes, it is), the article reports on research conducted in Kentucky by the University of Kentucky.

Then imagine to take another kind of Quiz question at the elementary school in Asia to brainwash the kids :)

a. It is the norm in the USA to kneel on throats of Black persons until they die.
b. It is the norm in the USA to accept frequent mass shootings.
c. It is the norm in the USA to believe FOX NEWS is news.
d. All are correct
e. None of above

And this one is funny too :) some people are just really sharp

True or false: BIDEN, the president of the US was voted on by the US people.

FALSE. Members of the electoral college voted for BIDEN.

There are plenty of the US cultural practices that Chinese people think are f**ked up (e.g. circumcision).

And also to most people, just saying NORMS, which to most means it’s already normal, infers all are true. It’s the weirdest way to word a question, AND it’s horribly racist.

Yes, and also it's setting up a multiple choice with A. Horrible and B. Scary (to a child) so that even if C. was completely true, they are presenting it in a way that is JUDGMENTAL.

(…)

So many things to learn just from one single starting post...

But see what they do with Chechnya They just obliterate it
Lol are you really being serious with your complaints against China being a p..y or are you just simply trolling. Your previous posts were not this ascerbic and pathetically whiny ad you're doing right now. I mean, judging from your previous comments you came of logical, rational, and had some strategic sense with your comments. So you're change is quite surprising

Nah it's not. Malaysians are good at sucking up with sweet words. They (Mahathir) said extremely nice things about China being different from colonial powers, but still continued to oppose China in SCS then.

The elder brother concept is in reference to China treating Malaysia as a suzerain tributary hundreds of years ago, as opposed to the Malaysian view (quite correct) that when Europeans visited, they immediately colonized, whereas China would pass by Malaysia and leave them alone.

However, if Singapore called China a big brother and part of one's family, that matters. Singapore's MFA is very shrewd in crafting its language. But they won't because it would be incorrectly interpreted as Singapore, majority Chinese state, being open to control by Beijing.

The effect China is looking for is beyond just Malaysia, what would the other country think:

Myanmar: we don't want to become China's puppet
Biden still shits on them while China continues to ignore them

Malaysia: China is our elder brother
Gets more BRI investment

What would you do after seeing this? Of course China knows they're kissing up for their own interest, after all China use to call Soviet Union "elder brother" for the exact same reason.

EU is crying again for the sanctions

Last week’s move by China is likely intended to send a message to Europeans: the sanctions’ asymmetric character might be a clear warning that China will respond vigorously to even moderate European attempts to adopt stronger policies and close ranks with the US. The economic punishment of H&M and other companies comes months after they made their pledges on cotton but right after the EU’s sanctions. This drives home the point to the business community that China is ready to use economic coercion in direct response to European policy choices whether by governments or companies. At the same time, the economic damage is negligible for now, especially compared to the fallout Australia is still facing for doing less – namely, Canberra’s call in 2020 for an independent inquiry into the covid-19 outbreak, which led China to curb imports on key Australian products in 13 sectors, amounting to 10 per cent of Australian exports overall. In the recent past, China has also threatened or imposed coercive measures on Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden.
Yawn

Europe can for now rely once more on the US as an ally. But the experience of the last four years should nevertheless remind Europeans of the need to strengthen their position against economic coercion. Washington itself wants Europe to be a more capable ally, and a more resilient Europe could better protect itself if the US cannot help it in a certain situation The events of the last few weeks should add extra urgency to their efforts.
Seems that the EU is still an US ally. They night make sweet noises about China and "strategic autonomy" but fundamentally they are a US ally

I usually enjoy reading @Hendrik_2000 posts from long time (long before I regged here), smart and full of knowledge & informative...

However, a series of his recent posts here are showing as if somebody else has hijacked his account, that he is not what he used to be. I wish he may soon regain his account, his composure and acumen :) Taking some posting break may be advisable. Persistence is good. But if the direction is not quite right, please refrain, don't be a diehard

No offense really, I like his many posts, and I wish to remain so.

@Hendrik_2000 -- please remain be cool head, dude :)

For the Taiwan question, please see my recent 'consolidated' post on its History by the British megaphone; Military POV by a former lieutenant colonel in the US Army and Geopolitics & Strategy POV by a former senior, very knowledgeable US diplomat, Chas Freeman -- all are very good pieces, esp. Freeman one is outstanding! :)

A bit stupid to pick a fight with China in the middle of a pandemic and a supply shortage and basically pissing Russia off so much that Russia simply did a partnership with China there and then. Something tells me that if someone is trying to depopulate Europe and the USA with their stupidity along with a significant number of countries in the world for sucking up to the USA and how they are handling the virus to the point where they are injecting themselves with vaccines that may or may not be effective in the long run and could actually kill, I would seriously believe them because the west in general is making so many insane mistakes that simply shouldnt be possible normally. I guess Trumpism can make countries extremely stupid. If Biden didn’t come after Trump, he would have a much easier time with China but now, he is hard wired into a position where epic fails are becoming the norm and since he cannot simply apologise to China to save face, he simply is running out of options with an economy that is literally dying and a vast amount of people that will die in the future simply because nothing is normal anymore
