@Gatekeeper ,
A stupid question, will the FIVE EYES form an economic bloc? cause before Brexit, UK is given a special right(which Thatcher had the foresight to negotiate), having an autonomy with it's own currency is a big thing. You can devalue your currency to stay competitive with a full market access to EU. So Farage and company had sold UK a dummy.
Well your crystal ball is as clear as mine. It's difficult to see whether the five eyes will form a bloc or not. Before the U.K. Brexit, I would definately said no. But now anything is possible.
But you must think why would they want to form a bloc? What's in it for them? At the moment these five eyes are really political. Economically, there is different level of advantages for different countries.
For example, it is highly unlikely this new bloc would benefit U.S. or Canada economically. In any case all these five eyes countries already have trade agreement in place that's almost as good as tariff free trade.
So the only way I see a bloc being form is for political reasons. Just my two cents.
@Crang
"An interesting question actually. I would say it is unlikely, but I would love to hear
@Gatekeeper's opinion since he is the economics professor."
Ah. Thanks for the compliment. But alas, no. I'm not a professor of economics. Just mearly a batchlor of economics. But thanks anyway.
I feel like that episode of big bang theory where everyone is a 'doctor' except for Howard Who only got a 'master'. I, my friend is sad to say is..... Howard. Lol
