These people are such children! Upset over a lion. Where is there outrage over the beheaded children in the Mideast my ISIS , or the people burned alive……..
Ahhh… now I know these are the people that care more about animals than people
Mirage, I have hunted all my life. I can't do it anymore because of my disabilities now, but I remember on one occasion, while hunting for a Mule Deer, I ended up getting one with a very unique set of antlers...or rack, as we say.
I shot it for the food, and I field dressed it and then took it to the butcher so my family had good deer steak and roast and burgers for several months. But I did mounted the head and antler rack of that deer and have it to this day.
My grandkids love to come and look at it and have me explain it to them. I call him, "Buck," and they like to see, touch, and hear about buck.
This guy who killed the lion is a dentist and apparently very much into hunting.
People can spend their money however they want. He spent $50,000 dollars to hire two professional guides there in Africa who promised him he'd get a Lion. That's how it works. You spend the money, you get a license, and the guides take you to the game. You give them money upfront, but a large payment is held back until you get the animal.
Now, I would never spend that kind of money on anything like that. First, I do not have it and would spend it on grand kids education or something. But even if I did, why should I? I could hunt here in Idaho, Montana, etc. very cheaply and get what I need.
But some folks want to use their money that way...and the way I figure it, it is there money. I do not ask them for permission to spend mine...they do not have t get my permission to spend theirs.
Apparently, the two guides he hired lured this lion of the preserve and set it up so this man could get it. He used a bow.
Let me say something about that. Bow hunting big game is not an easy thing to do, and its not as safe as a gun. I probably would never hunt an animal that can kill and eat me with a bow. If you miss, or simply injure it, you are in great danger because you also have to be a lot closer.
But he got the lion...and then later it was discovered that the lion was from the preserve, and was well known.
Form everything I have read, I am not mad at the guy. If those guides did illegal things, then they are the ones who should be held to account. If it were discovered that this Dentist knowingly encouraged or plotted with them to do something illegal...then he should be held to account for breaking whatever laws.
But everything I have read tells me that the man went about it the right way from here in the states. He spent a lot of money, got a license, got two professional guides, and then went over there to do his hunt. It was probably the hunt of a life time for him. Lots of people do the same every year.
As to the outrage...it is a sensational thing made up by the media and a few interest groups.
But to have people giving the guy death threats? To have him have to close his dental practice and go into hiding over this? That's just plain outrageous...and these media outlets who are encouraging it or playing it up should be ashamed.
We do have MUCH MORE serious things that are truly unsettling. Like the beheading of children by terrorist fanatics. The wanton killing of innocent people simply because they will not give into someone else's ideas. The horrible impact of drug trafficking. The revelation that certain organizations involved in the wanton butchering of the unborn are illegally selling their body parts that has come out here in the states, which, IMHO, is reminiscent of people like Mengele.
Where's the outrage over those things? They are truly horrific where innocent human life is being taken.
Anyhow, sorry for the rant.
My own feeling is that this dentist simply was the victim of an unfortunate set of events that were in all likelihood not his fault in the least. But as I say...if it were shown that he did conspire to illegally shoot the animal, then he should be responsible for the fines or whatever punishment that would go with that.
