Hindsight is always 20/20-and any of the older Chinese generation will tell you-it was an ENTIRELY different world /geopolitical landscape -a Cold War with the 2 nuclear giants US/USSR both competing/clashing just short of war with China in both their crosshairs,massive western economic power seemingly unlimited/eternal,extensive boycott of Chinese economy/political status.Yes,Mao was only imperfect and human but China needed him and all of his qualities at THAT dangerous time,just as we needed Deng XiaoPeng and his toughness,far-sighted vision,his courage /planning to lay the foundation for today's China ,an economic,political.and military juggernaut yet to reach its peak.
