Given the Danish and Italian governments do not have anywhere close to enough strength to protect even themselves against China, I would suspect they are unable to protect Maersk and MSC from China either. As such, I believe these two companies would comply to the minimum degree required to avoid receiving any punishments from China. As the largest trading nation, China can cripple these companies through simple regulatory tools alone. Adding them to a list of companies whose ships need to fullfill additional and/or confusing documentation requirements, lengthy inspections upon arrival and before departure, etc.

Reminds me of idiotic Western theories suggesting Shang dynasty was ruled by Indo Europeans/Aryans. In reality, Shang dynasty sometimes defeated tribes of Indo-Europeans and used the captured prisoners for human sacrifices.
