What‘s going on in Thailand? At some point they were thought to be becoming another Asian tiger but now they are firmly stuck in the middle income trap with low fertility rate with no way to escape. I was shocked to even see that the share of tourism in their GDP is at about 20%.
The 1997 Asian Financial crisis practically bankrupt Thailand. And Thailand has not fully recovered from that crisis even today

China's rise after joining WTO in 2001, as well as large FDI flowing into Vietnam years later meant Thailand missed the opportunity to attract large enough FDI for its economic recovery.

Also, Thailand's political scenario is not as stable as most other countries in ASEAN, making foreign investors hesitate in making investment decisions.

Sanae Takaiichi is in course for a landslide victory. The Japanese people have given their message. So bring it on.

The Japanese people have now given China carte blanche to launch a full scale economic warfare on Japan. There should be no more mercy. It's time for Japan to feel some real economic pain. The majority of the Japanese voters have voted for this.

LDP alone holds over 310 seats. The last party to have more seats was the Imperial Rule Assistance Association, led by Hideki Tojo, in 1942.

Even if the House of Councillors rejects the proposal, the LDP can still force its passage through a two-thirds majority vote in the House of Representatives, essentially a one-party vote. All obstacles within the rules have been removed.

I have mixed feelings about this. I know Chinese nationalists will feel that China should push harder, but when has China ever done that? Never.

China is too pragmatic. I feel this will allow Japan to make some fundamental and irreversible change that will have long term consequence.

Mainly two things come to mind. Any attempt by Japan to go for nukes.

Japanese military arms donations to Taiwan.

Let's see if China can take some real tough action to stop any Japanese movement towards these places.

No need. Just more causus belli in the future Sino-American War.

With the way Japan is going, China won't be going too pragmatic any more.

The Chinese government and its people have been preparing for a showdown with Japan, and Japan have just given them the green light. China have already dealt with the US, SK, Australia, Europe, and India. Japan is another idiot on the list. It may not be the easiest of opponents, but China is more than ready to confront and punish Japan. And this time, it is gonna be personal.

If Japan really goes for nukes and/or militarily meddles in Taiwan, then China should take that as a declaration of war. I don't think North Korea and Russia are gonna ignore Japan obtaining nukes either. Unlike China, they don't have a NFU policy.

Japan's real problem lies in its stagnant domestic development. What good will the LDP's constitutional revision do? What good will provoking China do? These are merely tools to divert attention from the nation's own developmental failures.

Does the LDP's policy offer any solutions to Japan's developmental challenges? Can currency devaluation, exploding debt, radical stimulus measures, and domestic tax cuts truly resolve these issues? As long as Japan's economy remains this mess, even if Japan kicks up a fuss, it'll just be a lame duck. Japan's militarization has actually given China an opportunity to step on the gas for Japan's downhill slide. Just wait and see the fireworks of Japan's economy.

R&D spending is required to get to high-income status.
But there have been 13 military coups and 20 versions of the constitution since 1932.
So who wants to invest in Thailand?

---

Elections alternate between the entrenched elite versus progressive/reformist politicians who count on the majority of the population.

The Monarchy, Military and entrenched business work together to keep control.
(10% of the population control 70% of the wealth)

---

The way out of the middle-income trap is for the Monarchy to side with the people over existing interests. So the Monarchy still controls the military, and can arbitrate/moderate/co-opt the competing interests so that it is still "fair".
