From now on, China should encourage Chinese fishermen to form flotillas and loiter in the immediate vicinity of the Diaoyu Islands (if not also the rest of the Ryukyu island chain, violating Japan's EEZ once in a while), with CCG vessels stationed in the vicinity. It should be noted that ramming and water-spraying between the cutters and fishing boats from both sides will become the norm, similar to what has been happening in the SCS for the past few years with the Philippines.
Through such maneuvers, China should dare Japan to open the first shot - Let's see if there's anyone hot-headed on the opposing side, whether that be a JCG cutter crew, a JMSDF warship crew, or someone higher up in Shinjuku and/or Chiyoda. However, the Chinese side should avoid actions that would result in the first death on the Japanese side as much as possible.
Beijing needs the casus belli, and we shall see if Tokyo wants to deliver that.
