I'm surprised there aren't more anti Americanism in these countries especially getting bullied like this and then taking it. This is the power of propaganda. They just feel like it's ok to sit back and take it, but if these deals make them sell less to the US, then in the future the US would have less economic leverage
I thought Malaysia was pretty friendly to china right now, so I doubt much will come of it.
Cambodia relies too much on China especially it's geography. I doubt they will be able to go against china much. It's like Mongolia trying to be anti china and anti Russia. Lol
When dealing with smaller countries. One should not expect too much loyalty. Most of these countries practice Western-style electoral democracy, so expect their foreign policy to flip flop whenever there is a leadership change. It doesn't help that the US is also busy meddling in the information and politics in these countries. So expect stupid things to happen once in awhile.
Malaysia is China-friendly as long as the current Anwar-led government is in charge. They are pragmatic. They know how to butter the Americans when Trump is here. They won't go too far with America's anti-China agenda.
However the Anwar government is not likely retain power in the next general elections. Because the youths of the Malay majority want a Malay supremacist leader. They generally don't like China, but they dislike the Israelis and Americans even more. In addition, too many urban non-Malays are eating the NED bullshit in the media. So the future is not certain.
What China is doing right now is he right thing. They focus on business, and don't get overly emotional over every minor issue. Unless off course, that nation crosses non-negotiable red lines. However China had proven to be patient. It won't instantly react to negative actions by minor countries until a certain pattern of hostility develops. China doesn't flip flop or go crazy like Trump or India. That is why it can sustain business relationships much better than them.
