Verhoeven interpreted Heinlein's novel as fascistic, nationalistic, totalitarian, and in favor of military rule, something antithetical to the director's own wartime experiences, and used Starship Troopers to deconstruct and undermine these themes.

Neumeier said the Nazi uniforms were used, in part, because the Nazi outfits looked good, but Verhoeven also wanted to use that aesthetic in "an artistic way".

Although some contemporary critics and audiences considered Starship Troopers to be an endorsement of fascism, Verhoeven said, "whenever you see something that you think is fascist, you should know that the filmmakers agree with your opinion".

Why does China need toilet paper in 100 years? It is also giving up one big fucking stick. With China holding short term treasury bonds US would always worry tomorrow's meal. With 100 year bonds you are giving US long an₫ easy time to eat you before you could collect your money.

100 year zero coupon bonds are worthless. The money in Chinese reserve belong to the Chinese people.

Steve Miran's "century bonds" proposal isn't principally intended to generate monetary returns for extremely patient purchasers of US sovereign debt.

Instead, buyers will primarily be "rewarded" with American security guarantees, which Miran frames as "global public goods."

In this regard,

:
  1. security zones are a public good, and countries on the inside must fund it by buying Treasurys;
  2. security zones are a capital good; they are best funded by century bonds, not short-term bills;
  3. security zones have barbed wires: unless you swap your bills for bonds, tariffs will keep you out.

To this end,

will work too as far as Miran is concerned:
Fifth, they could simply write checks to Treasury that help us finance global public goods.

To put it crudely, Uncle Sam doesn't intend to sell "century bonds" so much as to collect protection money.

the real takeaway though is that starship troopers is a cult classic because it makes socially acceptable what otherwise isn't. you think the audience actually muses "hrmmm yessss i'm in the mood to watch starship troopers because the bugs are actually the good guys???"

no. deep down, they need that dose of facism.
