I was thinking it more like in case of conflict where US wants to get involved against China, it would be an easier sell to the American public that 'US troops have been attacked in Taiwan' versus 'Taiwan has been attacked'.
They already had "trainers" on Taiwan for that. There is no additional value to tripwire forces in Kinmen since there is no circumstance where Kinmen would be liberated but Taiwan would not be liberated.

However there is immense value in barrier troops in Kinmen, since historically, it has been where the most ROC troops have defected to mainland China.

Kinmen is also the most resistant to Taiwan's independence regime, as they have called for expelling Taiwanese troops from Kinmen.

That lingering potential for invasion might make it seem like an unlikely place to construct a bridge to mainland China. Except, that’s exactly what many residents are calling for.

The idea of a bridge to mainland China is part of a wider proposal, unveiled in full earlier this year by a cross-party alliance of eight local councilors, to turn Kinmen into a demilitarized zone (DMZ) – or so-called “peace island.”

The proposal envisages removing all of Taiwan’s troops and military installations from the islands and turning Kinmen into a setting for Beijing-Taipei talks aimed at “de-escalating tensions.” It sees the bridge, which would stretch between Kinmen and Xiamen, as a way of boosting economic ties.

Nobody lives on Mt. Elbrus but the surrounding region is the warmest in the country, so it's a moot point to make. By that logic, Sinai Peninsula in Egypt isn't a warm place because it snows on Jabal Mousa (Mount Sinai).
Tourist reside in the coldest area to enjoy higher priced vacation not in surrounding areas. have you looked some videos of Moscow other cities in Winter. I doubt they spend in Summer similar. when people feel cold you have to entertain and engage them more. if the infrastructure is high quality and reliable better prepare it for those who can pay more. The whole Arctic development has tourist part of it.

The Russian North is bringing back tourists from China this winter

02/05/2024
Thus, the share of foreign tourist flow in January at the Murmansk flagship hotel of the group increased 7.5 times over the year, and the share of tourists from China increased almost 12 times. Travel industry experts interviewed by the editors consider the example of this Murmansk hotel to be indicative, because... This is almost the only high-level hotel in the city and, moreover, with a large number of rooms.

Sochi and surroundings are temperate in the winter and warm in the summer, thus ideal domestic destination for tourism year-round. Compare this to other places in Russia that have historical & cultural value, like St. Petersburg which is temperate for most of the summer and cold in the winter.
Not the places where Winter sports are done. The beach tourism is for summer and lower cost. Winter and Summer tourism is very different and i will even say different kind of people get attracted and they know where to advertise it.

I don't think they're for China at all.

Kinmen has been a hotbed for Taiwanese defection. In 2023 a Taiwanese officer swam to Xiamen from Kinmen. Lin Yifu, a current member of the State Council, also swam from Kinmen to Xiamen.
That guy was obviously suffering from mental illnesses. You don’t have to swim across anymore, you can just take the ferry… progress!

In fact this ferry was a huge point of contention between Kinmen residents and the DPP who delayed reopening ferry services until something like last year “due to covid”. The ferry services are basically the economic lifeline of Kinmen as more mainlanders visit than Taiwan islanders. Kinmen people believe they were seen as expendable to the DPP since they don’t support them. Of course, the DPP will never support any strong connection to the mainland so Kinmen is expendable to them.

I hope you didn't miss this response:
There are more people on Chinese online platforms who speak more fiercely and ruthlessly than me.

People with an extra chromosome can say there are those with 2 extra chromosomes but it still doesn't make them mainstream.
This video has been making me feel guilty for the past two years. A dying elderly person still cares about the cause of national unity, but we can't do anything. His enthusiasm makes those who hold the decision-making power seem so irresponsible.
What is their responsibility? To bind their military actions to the wishes of a dying old man? No, rather it is because those who are in power are particularly responsible that they don't get baited by emotions or enemy feints but stay on track developing China. I'm sorry the old man won't live long enough to see China's final victory, but the gap started too large and we need more time to bring about the optimal reunion result.
You cannot expect people to have no doubt about the increasingly serious situation of cross-strait relations. Especially when they see that the voting results and the "friendly attitude" on the island are completely opposite to official propaganda.
Not only do I expect this from people, I see it from people. Most people don't see any reason to rush to war. The other people on this forum see China's steady advances and understand the benefits of waiting. Once again, you represent your own opinion as "people." LOL
These arrogant bureaucrats are even too lazy to change their text.
Awww, would some colorful words sooth you? Go be an American; American politicians have mouths larger than their bodies, you know.
Americans still want to push for unrealistic plans, such as establishing an unarmed Palestinian state.
The likelihood of Trump becoming president is high. This person who is good at extortion only has abnormal enthusiasm and care for Israel.
At least the Israelis have high hopes for him, and Mr. MAGA may acquiesce to indiscriminate bombing.
Would be nice for China; he intends to start a global trade war and alienate America. He's also likely to plunge the democratic world into darkess as they watch him purge those who aided in his downfall the first time. If I wasn't so lazy, I'd vote Trump for sure.

I always felt these type of reactions usually come from two groups of people.

First group is the fenqings of the 2000s who imo are pro china but too emotional and demands the gov to act rashly to meet their short sighted expectations. The other group is the anti china gov hanjian type who makes use of any opportunities to pretend to be pro china but actually belittle the Chinese gov and lament them as weak and ineffectual.

I dun know which you belong to but based on your previous, I'm leaning more on the latter.
It's the latter; what's my biggest clue? @zhangjim does exactly what the US government wants, which is to incite distrust and disapproval of the CCP in the Chinese people, and his most common tactic is to pretend that his own fringe views are widespread. Here, he is trying in vain to make Chinese people pressure the CCP into taking a bait that's too stupid to work on any clear-headed person. When unsure of someone's allegiance, don't ask them and try to determine it from their response; just ask yourself, "Are this person's actions something that would make side A happy or something that would make side B happy?" Does inciting discontent amongst Chinese people against the CCP serve the interests of China or the US? And your answer will lead you to the truth regardless of what he attempts to argue.

What's interesting is that mental/psychological exercises like this are taught to children in China through popular games that are still played into adulthood at parties like San(1)Guo(2)Sha(1) and Find the Killer while Americans like to play less mentally-challenging games like Beer Pong and Flip Cup... and the British game Limp Biscuit LOL

I don't think a military officer will be allowed to just buy a ticket and get on the boat.

He is a political refugee fleeing from oppression behind the Green Curtain. We should celebrate his bravery.

I have become numb to this kind of thing. The leadership will always only repeat those useless words. Do they really fear that war will expose the weakness of the army?
No. There are no costs to speak of to the United States. The political adjudication of Taiwan is broadly irrelevant since China has more economic and physical damage and the U.S. can safely watch war while eating popcorn from a control room in Colorado Springs.
The public cannot always support policies that lack hope.Political legitimacy is not a property that can be squandered at will.
The public doesn’t care since war is cost less and risk free.
