China had 1.4 billion people surely those numbers can support an indigenous music industries, while SK and Japan can't and need to export their song to stay viable. Thus instead of creative music it had been capture by corporate greed. Everyone who plays Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail, two of the biggest games in the world, will listen to Chinese songs in the course of playing.
I don't think you can compare the market of 1.5 billion Chinese speakers with Zimbabwean or Hungarian (both of which ironically sing in English and maybe some French).
Listen for yourself, Zimbabwean music is just western music.

Sorry but all this talk over popular music still goes back to the soft power debate. Remember because Kris Wu's handlers forgot about his birthday, they changed the release date of his album to a later date to match his birthday but the dates in other markets like the US didn't change? His Asian fans went through US outlets to buy his album early and he beat the likes of Ariana Grande who released an album the same day and Lady Gaga on the charts. Asians fall into the Western mindset where Western whites buying an album is more valuable than anyone else. It doesn't matter that more people bought Kris Wu's album than Ariana Grande's.
Can K-pop do anything independent? Do K-pop artists write their own music? Can they play their own instruments beside the stereotype of Asians playing the piano? Individuals in K-pop are going to have short expiration dates especially when they grow out of their effeminate boy look. It's going to be like when I once glanced into a nail saloon and saw a middle-aged immigrant looking Asian man doing a young white woman's nails. There was something wrong with that. These K-pop stars are going to be has-beens really quick. K-pop is a corporate controlled concoction. There is no independent music scene in South Korea. That's why you'll see suicides because they'll be replaced easily and quickly.
Every time I see these soft power debates come up, what's wrong with those advocating that China/Asians should seek soft power? They're always putting the cart before the horse. It means they don't see the music as most important. They're just trying use music as a vehicle to be liked. And you wonder why Asians aren't successful in music? Everything about it is superficial because being liked is the only point of music to them.

this is why I listen to independent Bilibili ups, because they're genuine people who interact with fans, and you know they're people just like you with some artistic talent.
Its ironically one of the freest markets in the world and it really is all about the art, not about begging for acceptance. you can tell which Asian artists are begging for acceptance and which ones are actually good at their art.
Sir, my only son who just turn 18 have the look of a K-pop artist had been developing his physical appearance by toning his body, so in way it had a positive influence. My concern early on with the popularity of K-pop among the youth that he may turn gay because of using make-up among the male artist....lol My fear is unfounded it turn out that traditional culture and environment play a leading role in molding todays youth.
