I think its coz they don't want to admit they are wrong so they just double down on it. Think about it, these people should be happy that there's no mass genocide of Muslims there. Instead they feel depressed and angry that it isn't real and that they fell for yet another American ruse. They rather have genocide be real than be proven that they are gullible people. The comments on this article, and if they are to be believed being mostly AMERICANS and not INDIANS FROM INDIA AND OTHER chihuahuas larping as AMERICANS living in America show how much arrogance and condescension these people have against China and by large extension the Chinese people.
They really want to cling on to the notion that China's demography is already COLLAPSING and the economy at its last throes. These people are in deep doo doo, not to mention the shock and consequence anger they'll feel once China again makes advances in technology they ARROGANTLY assume is their rightful place.
There is no need to react so strongly to these comments. They are based on feelings, not facts, and are indicative of inferior intelligence, so they should be ignored.
Just a couple of years ago, the consensus in the West was that the sanctions would cripple China and now Westerners (not just this commenter) are saying things like "of course China has the right to chart its own technological path"

Anwar had also surprised me with his China policy. He has been very friendly to China, and had been far more pragmatic about the SCS issues than all of his predecessors. He is the only Malaysian PM who had articulated the SCS dispute with China as a "non-serious" issue, while the others had caved into nationalistic pressure.
Nevertheless, he can and must do more for the current "Allah" sock fiasco that is taking Malaysia by storm. Because it is detrimental to national harmony, and bad for business. This fiasco was instigated by one loose cannon politician in his unity government. A young and very ambitious Malay supremacist chauvinist: Dr Akmal. This guy is from the Malay-only party in the current unity government: UMNO. The problem now is that this idiot have started another Malay-Chinese feud in Malaysia, and Anwar is caught in a very difficult position. Take either side, and risk alienating either side. The problem is made worse by a government machinery that has been built over many decades by previous governments to uphold Malay-Muslim supremacy first. Hence they easily caved into pressure by the Malay-Muslim majority to selectively prosecute the non-Muslims first. Anwar himself tried to calm the situation down, but he has been unable to control Dr Akmal, who is still walking free and continuing to enflame the racial feud. This is the part that frustrates many Malaysian Chinese. The government was so swift to charge the non-Muslims for "insulting Islam", but they can't take any action on Dr Akmal, who is clearly agitating hatred on the Malaysian Chinese. Its a glaring loophole in the government that Anwar needs to take the lead in reforming urgently. Otherwise his chances in the next election could be affected. I personally don't want him to lose the next election because some idiots in his government stirs up racial trouble and alienate voters.
What is Dr.Akmal trying to instigate against Malaysians of Chinese descent? What's the allegations being made against the Malaysian-Chinese?

Yup. There are many many Muslims who could be so outraged over Gaza, yet still believe wholeheartedly in the Uighur genocide BS in Xinjiang. These people would condemn Israel in Gaza, but also celebrate Muslim suicide bombers killing children concert-goers in Manchester. All they truly care about is the Jihad until a Global Caliphate has been established. These are the smug A-holes who preach about enforcing Sharia law on the streets of London or Sydney. I don't trust Qatar and Al-Jazeera. Today Al-Jazeera is doing good journalism over the genocide in Gaza. But years ago, it was the voice for the Wahabi terrorists in Syria. Hamas is the hero today, fighting Israel in Gaza. But 10 years ago, they supported the overthrow of the Syrian government. During that war, the Yarmouk Palestinian refugee camp in Damascus transformed into an anti-government terrorist base. I've seen enough of their kind to not trust them anymore.

Dr. Akmal Saleh is a Malay Muslim chauvinist politician who basically just hates Malaysian Chinese. He has a track record of opposing anything Malaysian Chinese. He was making noises in parliament, but never got far. One day, he "found" a sock with the word "Allah" printed on it on a shelf in a KK Mart convenience store. The KK Mart convenience store chain was owned by a Malaysian Chinese family.

My explanation about the outrage long. Its gonna sound like a joke. But it is all effing true:
"Allah" in Islam is the equivalent for "God" in Christianity. In Malaysia, "Allah" even as a word is super sacred. And there are laws that were passed by the previous governments that prohibits non-Muslims from ever using or uttering that word. If caught doing so, they could be charged and prosecuted. Yeah, I'm not joking. So Dr. Akmal, took this sock and ranted on his social media. He said that "Allah" cannot be printed on a sock by non-Muslims. In this case, a Chinese company that made that sock. He adds that "Allah" must never be allowed to touch the ground. If someone wears this sock, "Allah" will be on his feet, thus touching the ground. Doing so is insulting to Islam. Of all things to insult in Islam, insulting "Allah" is the ultimate insult.
Because of this, there was massive outrage among the Malay Muslim majority. How dare, a Malaysian Chinese-owned business sells a sock that insults "Allah". Dr Akmal demanded an apology from KK Mart, or he will organize a Muslim boycott of KK Mart, and report KK Mart to the authorities. The owners of KK Mart did made a written apology, as well as appearing on TV to bow in apology to the cameras. But Dr Akmal didn't accept their apology. He said wanted to make an example of KK Mart. He still reported KK Mart to the police and doubled-down on his call to boycott KK Mart. His police report compelled them to take action because of the "Allah" law. Thus KK Mart got charged under that "Allah" law and for "hurting the feeling of Muslims". KK Mart is also facing waves of lawsuits and boycotts from other Muslim fanatics.
Non-Muslims who rebuked the stupidity of the whole thing were doxxed by Malay Muslim fanatics, who then reported them to the police to be arrested and jailed. Some Malay Muslim thugs pulled one doxxed Malaysian Chinese on the road, and then intimidated him on camera to apologize to all Muslims. Police later jailed that Malaysian Chinese, but ignored those Malay Muslim thugs. Others Malay Muslim fanatics attempted to throw a molotov cocktail at a KK Mart store, but failed. Dr Akmal had turned a silly issue into a Malaysian-Chinese vs Islam feud.
A number of politicians from Anwar's government called him out, but he called himself a fighter for the Muslim cause and that got so much support from Malay Muslims, that he has become a pseudo-Messianic figure that even Anwar cannot touch for now. Touch him, and Anwar risk enraging the Malay Muslim majority. This issue is still ongoing, and I'm sure that Dr Akmal will ride on his newfound momentum and attack another Malaysian Chinese businesses and organizations. He had already hinted that KK Mart is just the start for him.
