Out of 21 millions Bitcoin, 18.638 millions Bitcoin have been mined. Which means whatever they got out of mining wouldn't change the control of Bitcoin. Bitcoin is like a Ponzi scheme which would crash but never go away. People would keep pouring money into Bitcoin til its crash then sometime later another rally and another crash. It is a never ending cycle.

What do you make of Musk suggesting they will accept payment of Bitcoin as payment. I wonder if he means a vehicle or just the sundry items associated with such a purchase.

I think it is for marketing purpose. Tesla said that it would accept Bitcoin but subject to applicable of laws and on a limited basis which doesn't instill much confidence. In addition, as long as its pricing in Bitcoin is flexible then Tesla can always offload Bitcoin and limit its holding and loss.
