Xi is probably serving his 7+3 quarantine after SCO meeting. Since the standard expectation is that Xi will get a third term, there is no good reason for him not appearing in public or in news after quarantine. Politically, his public appearance sends a message that he's in firm control and 20th congress will not contain any large surprises.
At this point usually, broad strokes for 20th congress have already been determined at beidaihe meeting. Not appearing would rather fuel rumors about his chances or the eventual makeup of standing committee.
They are a few key days we can look forward to for likely appearances. For instance on Sept 30, Chinese leaders customarily attend a commemoration service at Monument to the People's heroes. On Oct 9th, there is a plenum of CCP central committee (七中全会) where new central committee members will be announced. I personally expect Xi to appear on both occasions.
Just gonna say. After 48 hours and the big dogs of Western Media has said absolutely nothing because there is nothing to it. Those guys have their own sources including government sources. Zero chance they won’t circlejerk such an major event for a huge temporary ratings boost.
