@FriedButter hahaha Putin gas for ruble is one of the best policy decision EVER, not a single shot fired BUT with a sign of a pen EU is crumbling. That's how you spark a regime change scenario....lol And China is watching maybe she can do the same regarding Rare Earth export.
Indeed I would describe Russia has having way under performed militarily but way over performed in economic warfare, basically subverting expectation on both fronts.

Now that they're turning things around on the battlefield it's getting to be a really good show on geopolitical stage.

@Temstar bro, I think over usage of sanction had backfired badly, Russia was heavily sanction in 2014, 8 years they endure and work hard to be self sufficient, there are minor setbacks like the confiscation of $150 billions of its international reserve BUT in overall scheme of things who are suffering. The way the Russian react with calm and confidence is mark of Putin leadership. Now we can say the same with Xi, Brandon Asia visit is to unsettled China position in East Asia by building a security foundation based on this twin pillar, Japan and SK. Well good luck and hope you succeeded...lol Like I posted before most Asian countries see China as a stabilizing influence in the region.

Japan lodges protest over South Korea's maritime survey around Dokdo IslandUpdated

2022-05-30 20:28:03 KST

Japan has lodged a protest over South Korea conducting a maritime survey in waters off Dokdo Island in the East Sea.

That's according to Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary ( ) Hirokazu Matsuno at a press briefing on Monday.

Matsuno said that the Japanese Coast Guard confirmed the sighting and added that the survey must be be halted immediately as it took place without prior consent from Japan.

In response, a South Korean official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the country cannot accept Japan's protest as the survey was conducted legitimately based on international and domestic maritime laws.

I don’t think the issue was the over usage of sanction but the misuse of sanctions. They fired them off too slowly, too far apart, and not fast enough. If they went all out in 2014 against Russia (swift, oil, economic, etc) in quick succession then chances are Russia would have long since imploded. The West misplayed their cards badly. Very badly.

Western publications were all too quick to dismiss China's comprehensive deal as a failure. Pacific Islands didn't endorse it, and that was what western media focused on.

In fact, China threw a big red flare to attract West's attention while it quietly worked on other aspects. A security deal is quite premature, I trust that the top CMC and CPC echelon are aware of what security deals and at what distance the PLAN can 100% guarantee.

Documents obtained by The Associated Press indicate Wang had hoped to get the 10 nations to endorse a pre-written agreement as part of a joint communique after the meeting.

But Wang was unable to get the consensus he’d sought
While China may have fallen short on its plans for a grand multilateral agreement, it has been signing smaller bilateral agreements with the Pacific nations every day during Wang’s tour.
For instance, on Friday Wang visited Kiribati, where a key fishing ground the size of California is at stake. Kiribati’s government said afterwards the two nations had signed 10 agreements ranging from cooperating on economic goals to building a specific bridge.
In Fiji, the economy was hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic. The vital tourism industry shut down overnight and GDP shrank by more than 15%. As the world reopens, Fiji is trying to bounce back, and many are happy to see China write the checks.

“There’s a good side and a bad side,” said Nora Nabukete, a student at the University of the South Pacific
She said that aligning with China could mean that Fiji creates tension with the United States and other Western nations, and for that reason, she hoped that Fiji wouldn’t endorse Wang’s agreement.
“There’s so much more to lose in the future than what we’re experiencing now if Fiji does sign,” she said.
Smart. If I was in her shoes, I would also not endorse that agreement until I 100% knew that PLAN had complete dominance on the area. You never know when the big bad bully comes swinging at you because you made deals with his enemy.

To be more precise, I think the issue is the reckless misuse of MAD sanctions.

Sanction is supposed to hurt the target recipient and not yourself. Well, it backfired so badly and so quickly. Are the US and EU so incompetent that they cannot even think through the issues and consequences ?

Case in point, just a month ago, Yellen was yelling (pun intended) about escrowing the energy payments to Russia. Even our forum members could quickly see through the stupidity of such action. We have not heard her and EU talking about it any more since. The fact that people with such high position and responsibility can even talk about it publicly just flabbergast me.

Consider how counter-productive the Trump-era sanctions on China have been.

Germany to amend constitution

The ruling coalition and a major opposition party have agreed to change Germany’s constitution to beef up its defense budget

Germany’s constitution will be changed to accommodate a new special €100 billion ($107.35 billion) credit-based defense fund, the country’s Finance Minister Christian Lindner has confirmed.

On Sunday, the ruling coalition comprised of the Social Democratic Party, the Greens and the Free Democratic Party had to engage in talks with the leading opposition party, CDU/CSU, to secure a two-thirds majority in parliament needed to exempt the defense fund from a constitutional debt brake. According to reports in German media, it took the parties more than three hours to reach a consensus.

Hans. Get the printing press ready. The Russian Rubles are getting closer to Berlin.

Just another in Western MSM's long-held tradition of setting arbitrary and extremely maximalist objectives for the country they are writing on. Then they claim the said country is failed for failing the achieve arbitrary objectives set by them. They will conveniently ignore the vast plethora of MoUs that didn't exist before Wang Yi's tour and focus on China failing to achieve their arbitrary objectives.
